I hope your not serious. Probably one of the funniest movies ever that appealed to many different age groups.

"Good night sweet prince" as Walter dumps Donnie's ashes out of the coffee can right into the Dude's face. EPIC.

I have never smoked pot or done any drugs in my life. And I love the movie.

Greatest movie ever? Nah. But it's damn good.

I concur. Not the best ever, but certainly top 10 - 15.

Watched this movie just this weekend and I still love it. The dialogue is what drives this film.

quote:

Also, let's not forget - let's *not* forget, Dude - that keeping wildlife, an amphibious rodent, for uh, domestic, you know, within the city - that ain't legal either.

IMO, it is not underated in the least. The Big Lebowski is a stoner movie directed by the Coen Bros....of course its great. It is far more plot driven than 95% of other comedies. Bridges, Hoffman, Goodmen, and Buscemi are all GREAT. Turtoro is hilarious as The Jesus and we all love a little Sam Elliot. There is also the typical brilliant but much funnier than usual Coen bros. dialogue. Jeff Bridges role as "The Dude" is perhaps the best "stoner" role in movie history. He was perfect for that part. Several memorable scenes and even more memorable quotes. For me, TBL and Fargo are Coen Bros. best two movies.

What do you mean brought it bowling, Dude? I didn't rent it shoes. I'm not buying it a fricking beer. He's not taking your fricking turn, Dude.

I still use a variation of this when people complain about crap.

I love the notion that because a stoner is in it, the movie is a stoner movie. This isn't Half Baked. The central premise of the movie isn't centered around the Dude's pot habit. The fact that he smokes a lot influences his character and his interactions with people, but why don't we think of it as an alcoholic movie? The Dude drinks just as many or more White Russians than he smokes joints. Just baffles me the way people label The Big Lebowski as a stoner movie because it is offbeat and has a stoner as the main character. Notice how he is the ONLY one who smokes (with the exception, I think, once when Maude smokes with him)? I just don't understand this rationale.

What an incredible movie

quote:

The Dude: It's like what Lenin said... you look for the person who will benefit, and, uh, uh...
Donny: I am the walrus.
The Dude: You know what I'm trying to say...
Donny: I am the walrus.
Walter Sobchak: That fricking bitch...
The Dude: Oh yeah!
Donny: I am the walrus.
Walter Sobchak: Shut the frick up, Donny! V.I. Lenin. Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov!
Donny: What the frick is he talking about, Dude?
