I can definitely echo most of the sentiments posted above...I am actually a season pass-holder at the TPC and I will tell you that course is BORING.

In all honestly, I have dreams about medium par 4's with wastebunkers down the left side...it seems to be almost every hole out there. The course is DEFINITELY a reason holding the tournament back. If I were on tour, I wouldn't want to come play out there considering the abundance of high purse events offered every year.

In looking a little deeper, I found what skuter was looking at....and there are some good names in the field. It won't have any depth, of course, but so far it looks watchable....

quote:

Two of the hottest young players on the PGA Tour - Nick Watney and Sean O'Hair - plus defending champion Andres Romero headline the tentative field released Monday by the Fore!Kids Foundation, which produces the event.

Watney, the 2007 Zurich champion, won his second title earlier this year and had a strong finish this week at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. O'Hair finished second to Tiger Woods on Sunday at Palmer's event.

Other top players in the field include: David Toms, Boo Weekely, Kenny Perry, J.B. Holmes, Steve Stricker and Mike Weir. Danny Lee, the 2008 U.S. Amateur champion, has also committed to playing.

Paul Azinger, the victorious U.S. Ryder Cup captain, will be playing

and then, ol' skuter offers his opinion:

Why extend Fonseca's contract? This year's field looks like it will be pathetic AGAIN!!!

Yeah the field looks like it did always at English Turn minus the one or two huge names like when they would get Phil or Vijay. It's still a better field then they were getting in the mid to late 90's when they were the week before the masters.

If Tiger isn't in the field its irrelevent who else comes.

Blows my mind that he (Tiger) has never played in Memphis or New Orleans.

The PGA Tour does have a rule that to be a fully vested memeber you have to play in each event (city) on the schedule every four years. I just do not think that Tiger cares much about the PGA Tour's retirement.

that's not true, you get guys like Phil Mickelson, Geoff Ogilvy, Vijay Singh, Adam Scott, etc. people will turn out in droves to watch these guys play...Tiger's effect is much more in terms of TV ratings. Sure, having Tiger would be AMAZING but it doesn't mean other big names couldn't help the tournament

really, how so? being from NOLA I would LOVE to see Tiger down here, but realistically why would he play here? his schedule is basically down to Majors, WGC events, and tournaments he has won previously. Hell, I doubt he is even playing in all of the Buick Tourneys this year because they are no longer a sponsor of his....

LPGA has a restriction on playing each event every 4 years. PGA has no restrictions on where you play, still considered independent contractors and you can play wherever you want. Being vested in the pension plan is purely based on how many years you have had status, and if you lose status before becoming vested, you have 5 years to earn it back.

Not really. The tour has three or four options to get vested. I may be worng on the four year thing but there is an option for guys that play in every event on the calander being fully vested. I will have to do some research.

Correct, Marc Morial royally fricked over Tiger's charity and he will never come back to NO.
