Watch Joe over pitches him and his arm falls off after 1 playoff run

Guaranteed 21 mil per and let him earn the rest with incentives looks like a pretty good deal for both sides.

I’d be happy if I were a Cubs fan. I wonder what the Twins offered as they should have been able to beat this. Looks to me Yu took a little less here.

id be worried about the length of the deal. i think thats going to look rough. he really needs to outperform it the first two years

People said same when offered Lester same deal at age. We are in year 4 of that and it's proven to be worth the $$.

and we also have examples of it not working out. it could work out fine, it also might not. there is a decent amount of risk imo

It’s the same ole song and dance every year with every high priced free agent. Length of contract. It’s something that’s not going to change. With the said, the AAV makes it tolerable. Even though it’s 6 years, you can see the market correction taking place.

If this deal took place a year or two ago, you’d see all that money guaranteed and maybe even another year tacked on.

I'm ok with signing a guy that averages 11 k's per 9 innings for 6 years.

Home scramling to adjust their free agent strategy. Yu just threw the market a curveball and the other guys aren’t going to like it. I wonder if Arrieta can approach that 25 mil per number that’s been thrown around all off season.

The Arrieta market just grew... who knows will enter the market for his services now.

This goes without saying in just about every top of the line free agent signing.

The Cubs are getting ready to start their own TV network. Money is going to be rolling in the next few years. Theo has consistently said they have a 5-7 year championship window. This signing fits with that philosophy. The Cubs did well here.

I’m not sure about the 6 years, but I’ve learned that Theo and Jed are a lot smarter than me. If they think it’s the right move, let’s roll.

At least we don’t have to worry about mike Montgomery every 5th day.

I can't help but think this takes Cubs out of the Harper Sweepstakes. They will have about $70 mil committed to 3 guys in Heyward, Lester and Yu next year. Add another $40 mil per long term at Harper and while you could do that, basically means they won't be able to retain KB when his time comes

But this is the Cubs window. That would give the Cubs multiple years with bryant Rizzo and Harper.

This most definitely does not take them out of the Harper sweepstakes.
