I don’t get that theory. Why tie up so much money with a QB that you KNOW won’t win you a super bowl and screw up your cap. I’m looking at you Detroit and Minnesota. Roll the dice. Don’t take a Tim Tebow but I believe you can win with a mid tier guy who isn’t “setting the market”.

I think teams panic because good QB's are such a rare commodity in the NFL. The chances of winning decrease drastically with a downgrade at QB. If they think they have even an above average one they don't want to lose him.

It is amazing though that the likes of Matt Stafford, Derek Carr, Kirk Cousins, and Jimmy Garoppolo are making more than Drew Brees, Tom Brady.

Minnesota's going to end up making the playoffs despite having the worst offensive line in the modern history of the NFL, and having had the wrong coordinator for 15 weeks.

I'd say its working out well for them- Cousins is the only one of the top 6 paid QBs in the league that's going to be playing in the postseason.

Look at the hit rate of QBs that are drafted. If you can find a solid guy you have to keep him.

Supply and demand, really. If you don’t pay a Stanford or Carr, they go to Arizona or Buffalo or Jacksonville or Miami or Tampa Bay or Washington or Denver or New York or Cleveland. And you get Blake Bortales or some other Colt McCoy.

Why would you not pay cousins? 4,000 yards 30 TDS...

If the 80's were 2000's NFL rules and policy...

Marino and Montana would be taking up $40 million toward each team's cap each year.

i agree with you. people will say a good QB is rare but i think its probably not as simple as that. the rare times that a team does let a QB leave and he ends up starting for another team they dont always look like the same player. some examples off the top of my head are:
Jay Cutler (considered very good in Denver and looked very average in Chicago)
Carson Palmer
Drew Bledsoe
Jim Everett

Carson Palmer

He was really good in Arizona. They contended for Superbowls for years with him at QB

Ummm they have to win next week vs the Bears who tore them up last time. When Kirk had a win and your in situation before he shite the bed. Let’s not forget his record vs winning teams.

Even if they make the playoffs they are going no where

Looks like we found someone who just sees his padded stats but doesn’t actually watch him play
He also has 17 turnovers

Problem is that starter quality QBs don’t grow on trees, so there’s always a market for ones who don’t shite themselves most of the time they step out there.

A Matt Stafford or Kirk Cousins may not get you to the Super Bowl but they are reasonably competent enough to not lose you they game single handedly.

Tyrod Taylor did himself no favors in Cleveland but he was competent enough not to be a pick six machine like Peterman was whenever he started.

Would you rather lock in a guy with a high floor and low ceiling or would you want to roll the dice on whatever shady piece of talent is out there like the Browns have been doing since 1999?

I agree. Only a handful of QBs are worth that kind of money. I believe, if your QB can't totally change the game by himself, then it would be money better spent on upgrading 2-3 other positions. An overpaid middle of the road QB, with a patched together rest of the roster won't get you very far.

Stafford was one of the best QBs in the league last year by almost every objective measure. He didn't play well enough this year, nor did he get a lot of help. Both can be true. He can win a Super Bowl.

Detroit could have anywhere from 40-70 million in cap space for '19...their cap isn't "screwed".

Incorrect. They can get in, even if they lose.

Only one of these teams have given up a NFL record for QB hits/pressures/sacks per drop back this year. Hint-- its not the Redskins. Cousins has performed admirably, given the state of protection offered.

Again, they do not have to win to make the playoffs. If you assume the Eagles are going to beat the 'Skins, its at least as safe an assumption that the Rams are going to beat the 49ers, leaving the Bears nothing to play for on Sunday.

The Eagles will beat the Skins and the Bears are still playing for seeding and they will be playing the same time as the Rams....

The redskins have like 6 lineman on IR

It also makes sense Cousins got hit so much this year bc they never ran the ball. He’s been average and has 17 turnovers

His stats are shallow

He's similar to Romo... Very good QB that chokes when it matters most
