Honestly after Torre any manager that came in was gonna be a let down.
I was never a big Torre fan. I dunno why. Jorge has Cash coming up, Ajax will be ready in a year or two to replace JD, and if they would stop being dumbasses Joba could replace mo. As far as Jeter who the hell knows. He's not an elite SS anymore by any means but what the hell do you do? Imagine the PR nightmare if he ever dons another jersey.
Jeter is still a fine player, but is limited defensively and offensively he is basically a singles hitter. I mean I hope last year is a abbervation and he can come close to 15 home runs, 20 steals, .310 avg, with some extra base pop.
If he starts to become Omar Visquel with the bat, Yanks are in trouble cause no where to move him too.

Joba too pen, I don't see why anyone would have a problem with this. I mean hell he would then take over for Rivera in 2 years and become the highest paid closer in baseball.
Went to a couple of games last year and all the locals I talked to were sooo high on him as a starter. I think he has promise as a starter but the durability bothers me. Plus I just like Hughes more as a starter.
Well I mean its obvious why he would wanna be a starter 12+ million a year as a starter or 5-10 million as top closer...

Oh yeah he's still a solid guy but he isn't NEAR what he used to be. At the same time he ain't getting ANY younger and you're right...where the hell do we move him? Most of the talk I heard last season was to first which I didn't really see happening but it was all over the Yankees board I visit but now obviously that spot is HAPPILY filled.

Cant move him to 2B because of Cano, he doesn't produce enough to be an outfielder, DH is Hideki's spot, and first is Tex.
Plus Jorge could still produce offensively for a couple more years and needs to be moved from behind the plate.
its time to get rid of Matusi and put Jorge at DH. Hell trade a-rod back to texas for a catcher and millwood

Money isn't a problem. I really think he can be on the same level as Mo...that slider is WICKED. If he does good enough shite yeah give him the $12 mil. Mo makes $15 mil, K-Rod I think around 10-11, I see no reason to bump Joba up in a few years. I really think he could have more impact in the next 5 years closing than starting especially with Hughes APPEARING to come back around...but then again I am pretty damn high on Hughes.

Exactly man...what the hell do you do with him? Matsui is done after this season...unless he has one hell of a season at DH (and he WAS putting up great numbers last year pre-injury) I don't see them re-signing him. Posada can move to DH and make a move for a young catcher if Cash doesn't pan out.

Yeah K-Rod is at 10.5 million...
I do not see another team coming close to the 15 million Rivera has though either. I think 10-11 million is kinda where it will level off for a closer.
Still as a starter, all he needs is one great year to become a 15-20 million man. And a 3rd starter still makes around 12 million

My solution for now..
Put Joba in the pen. Send down Jose Veras and Wang to work on their shite. Bring up Ian Kennedy and Phil Hughes.
Hell.
SIGN PEDRO MARTINEZ!!!!!!!!

All for Veras going down. Kennedy in the pen, I just don't think he has the shite to be a starter. Hughes 5th starter, Joba to pen. Ped-no lol

Pedro would do no good as he can only go 5 innings... still put too much strain on relief corps...
Is Byrd still available? I mean he isn't great but good for 6/7 innings anda 4-5 ERA

One of the biggest mistakes the Yankees did in the offseason was not signing Juan Cruz(signed with KC), IMO.

Oh hell no. 5 mil of that deal was just because of who he is

Don't forget about Pettitte.

Byrd said he was going to wait till the All Star Break/Trade Deadline and see if any team wants him.

Forgot about that. If we get in a jam I say we might as well. I still think at the end of the year Hughes is starting.

He goes out and wins 15-18 games with a 3 ERA and Yanks open up checkbook he would come back though... He does like money

HUGE if's in my opinion. I think he'll be alright but I just think he's done.
