Boone seemed to be running the script the Rays used. Different pitcher every time through the order so nobody gets a chance to settle in. It worked reasonably well for them (3/28) but I don't think the Yankees have the same level of variation (lefty/right, speed, pitch types) that they Rays do.

It also probably doesn't work as well in a 7 game series as opposed to a shorter one.

That is why I think pulling Green (who had a few hard outs but was mostly cruising) was clearly getting too cute. Obviously Springer made him pay immediately. Can't expect all of your relievers to be on their game. Overall probably still a winning strategy though.

The 2-2-1 format of the DS really lets you tweak the pitching strategy in non-traditional ways. The 3 game set in the middle of the CS and WS really stretches a thin bullpen. A rain out on Wednesday would really benefit the Yankees and things stand right now.

Game 4 will be a bullpen game for the Yankees as well.

If game 4 is a bullpen game and Severino is limited to 4-5 innings in game 3, weve got to.. got to.. got to.. knock him out early. Either by scoring or simply running up the pitch count.

It's a real opportunity to run up the pitch counts and exposure to one of the strengths of their team between last night's 7 innings, whatever they need after Sev and a Game 4 pen game. Could be possible to force their hand and start Happ to try to get some innings out of him.

Anybody have a link to the actual call? That's a video of a the call, but you can't really hear him

I looked at the responses and he says they are in his feed, but that doesn't help this old man any

Ehh maybe, but could give us Verlander Game 5 instead of 6 right?

Pitched Sunday, monday, tuesday wednesday thursday off if we have a rain delay and gamve 5 moves from Thursday to Friday. Then you can pitch Greinke at home if you want to instead of in the Bronx.

Severino will only pitch 80-90, so 5 innings seems to be his max

Green threw 26 pitches, Chapman 25, Kahnle 25, no one else threw more than 15 I believe. That seems the script that Boone is going to use.

Game 4 as a bullpen you would see CC, Happ, or Cessa come in after Green to work 3-4 innings

I hate this is still a game thread as I can't just click on the lAst pAge from desktop

This is a great take. I think 3-1 for the JV-Cole combo is reasonable, considering we are already 1-0 in such games. I am really banking on Game 3 (and I don’t think it’s me being greedy) being one of the JV/Cole wins.

That said, if the Astros take game 3 and then lose 4 and 5, I would still feel pretty confident about winning 6 and 7 with JV and Cole.

Assuming Hunch doesn't make another panic move.

Then the JV/Cole combo has to go 4-0, which blows up your original theory.

Yeah, but it could happen. I would just like our chances a lot better taking one other game.

Here’s the way I hope it goes down, using the “JV-Cole combo will likely lose one game” theory:

Game 3: W (Cole)
Game 4: L (all hands on deck)
Game 5: W (Greinke)
Game 6: L (JV) [the one mandatory JV-Cole combo loss]
Game 7: W (Cole)
