In high school I had to wrestle a kid from Mississippi who was legally blind and it was difficult because of the rule changes. I won handily but I had to have at least one hand on him the entire time and if I didn't the match would stop and we would have to reset. It certainly made it difficult for me to set my shots up. He was very instinctive.

Yeah, that is cool and all, but how well would he do in an arse-kicking contest??

I have watched him wrestle quite a bit. You have to use a different approach with him but to say you cannot score a takedown on him is a stupid statement. And if it is true that leverage goes out the window wrestling him then how does he do so much of his scoring off of tilts? This is done with his use of technique and leverage.

Not to mention the whole legs worth of upper body muscle he has over everyone in his weight class.
I was going to post this opinion, so I agree. He seems so much more powerful for his weight class.
I admire him nevertheless.

He was good but how about his teammate bubba Jenkins? Penn st's new coach didn't want him, he had to transfer and in Penn st's backyard with thousands of fans booing him, he pins the undefeated freshman who took his spot. Unbelievable

I wouldn't want to touch his nub either, gross.

He deserves to be crowned champion, but I hate the fact the media plays it up like he is disadvantaged, when in reality it is the other way around. But I tip my cap to him for the hard work he put in. Congrats to him for turning a disadvantage into an advantage.

I'm not bitter, congrats to PSU on their first National Title, only 22 more to go to catch Iowa. LOL

Uhhh... didn't Bubba Jenkins transfer because he was released from the team for breaking team rules?? Maybe he was WANTED there, seems like he didn't really want to BE there.

He is. It's not just the extra muscle he has in his upper body..
But that he has his build AND is less the weight of an entire leg.. therefore he's pretty much able to wrestle several weight classes lower than his natural build...
again.. not that he's not a great kid and all. He is. But he's in a sport that his disadvantage is able to be overcome.

Thanks RedHawk. This year was hopefully a good starting point for our wrestling program. I'd say winning 7-8 titles consecutively would put us in the same level as Iowa, because we are not there yet.

True, media will play up anything for an angle. But all this talk of unfair advantages is ridiculous. Throw all the one-legged kids out there on a mat and most will lose handily. As you said, HE is the one who turned this into an advantage and should be commendeded for it. Did you see him flip the Iowa dude twice in the first period? Nothing to do with his situation, just great technique. If it's "unfair" it's only because the dude has killed himself training to maximize his other assets, upper body strengh and technique.
Reminds me of when they used to say John McEnroe would be an average player is he wasn't left-handed. Uh, get over it.

I agree with all of this. I never said it was unfair, just that he turned a disadvantage into a "HUGE" advantage for him and good for him. I just hate that the everybody thinks that it is this big upset, when he has the advantage.
