You don’t have to say the “F-word” for an umpire to cite verbal abuse.

And the umpire gave Serena plenty of chances to drop it before calling a violation. She kept going on and on and on and on...

And you have seen verbal abuse called for situations in which a player didnt curse or threaten physical harm?

You think extended arguments with an umpire that concludes with demanding an apology and calling him a thief wasn't verbal abuse under the rules?

Your tennis experience isn't going to save you on this dumbass opinion.

I am sure you can find the rules would allow for this, but in any sport, one knows the rules and how they are applied arent followed with simple words on paper

I am telling you with all my experience I havent found another player I know who thinks the umpire handled this well

Nor have I found one that thinks Serena handled it well

Yes. I can’t specifically recall it off the top of my head as I’ve seen so many matches and there wasn’t anything that prticilulary stood out, but I have seen it before.

And verbal abuse is defined right there in the rule book:

quote:

a statement about an official, opponent, sponsor, spectator or other person that implies dishonesty or is derogatory, insulting or otherwise abusive”

Serena was wrong from the start and wouldn't let it go (likely because she was getting beat). The umpire was probably stricter than the typical umpire would be, but to act the way Serena acted and do what she and her coach did and then try to hide behind claims of sexism, is ridiculous.
