So based upon twitter reaction he has been a hit with the sports hipster crowd but I'm wondering how much would that carryover to the everyday crowd like you guys
For those that don't know here's Johnny,

You serious, Clark? What kind of knowledge does Johnny have regarding ball sports?
Posted on 2/22/14 at 10:13 am to OTIS2
I think he is into ball sports

I saw him last night for the first time.
He'll be lucky to get out of Putin's Russia alive.

If the networks liked him enough they would find a way to incorporate him. For all intents and purposes he's been great with figure skating
Also, this doesn't have to be limited to Weir there may be a guy similar to him that really likes football, basketball but has never felt comfortable before and now sees this as his chance to find his niche

Well unlike 95 percent of sports writers and sports anchors and play by play announcers he has actually done a sport at the highest level.
Seriously, I actually think he would better to watch on PTI and Pardon the interruption than the current crew and the other talking heads on sports who never played the game.
Plus he has flair. I got to give him credit. The dude is not boring and knows sports and yes he's flaming but he's more interesting than Michael Wilbon or Chris Berman or Bob Costas or Al Michaels or Buck.

Wier has all the knowledge on Ball Sports.
They should try him out on Gameday.
Replace Pollack with Weir.
(That could actually be a solid gameday sign)

Also, have your wives and girlfriends not stopped talking about the guy? He could bring a whole new demographic into sports if you're looking at things from an advertisers standpoint

That's the vibe I've gotten from twitter. I think he's really connected with male and female audiences

Let's be honest he's familiar with baseball, football, basketball, and hockey growing up in the USA. I'm sure he know's who Tiger Woods is.
Do you actually think it's that difficult to get up to speed with baseball and football? Send to spring training or training camp and have him watch games and he'd get up to speed. Hell you and I could get up to speed on the English Premiere League in a few months if we were given the resources and access.

With Sams coming out, I say give him a shot at some NFL games. He couldn't be worse than Aikman.

One thing you're overlooking is that practically all of the talking heads on TV are either former jocks in one of the major sports or trained sports journalist, most with degrees from Syracuse or Northwestern. Also, many of them spent years as print journalists, where you must do you homework, before they made it to TV.
EDIT: And comparing him to Bob Costas, Al Michaels, Brent Musberger or anyone of that ilk is utterly ridiculous. Being on PTI isn't the same thing as being a public address announcer, where you must have a certain kind of voice.

I thought he did a pretty good job calling figure skating. I don't know how well he would do with other sports.

If CBS Sports is down with him bedazzling the shite out of his sport coat, then he could work for them.

The best talking head is most likely Charles Barkley since he knows his stuff and says stuff that is interesting and entertaining. If you want boredom have a former jock talk. For the most part they never left the fraternity of sports.
In all honesty sports is where you find the least amount of Journalism. The guys who dig up NCAA scandals and gambling scandals and crime scandals are more likely real journalists who have the skills to actually investigate crimes and the like.
Vin Scully, Howard Cosell, and Pat Summerall were not trained sports journalists and they are generally regarded as the best of the bunch. I mean would you put Chris Berman up there with Vin Scully?
