Damn, two big names firing at each other early. WTF w/ Giang risking his tourney this early on a flush draw / gutshot str8 draw against a paired board?
Posted on 7/7/10 at 11:22 pm to 9Fiddy
Giang had a made straight and a flush draw when the money got in and Esfandiari has two pair and a flush draw

sorry guys, it was the Qd not the Kd
Chau had the made straight.

Phil Hellmuth was just eliminated in a big pot over on the secondary featured table. The player who did the deed has since lost almost all of those chips, so we don't want to ask Mr. Grumpy for the details.

Another tail-end pot.
The board read 7s-2d-3d-9s-6d on Johnny Chan's table, and there had been some heavy action between he and an early-position opponent who ended up tabling 7h7d. Chan managed to work his Kd8d into a flush, though, and that was indeed better than three sevens.
Johnny Chan looks like our chip leader again, sitting pretty with 165,000 now.

What we do know is that Hellmuth had pocket jacks on his final hand, and he was up against pocket queens and ace-king.
The board came down king-high but with four diamonds, and the Qd in the pocket queens hand scooped the pot and sent Hellmuth to the rail.

Oh ok, that makes more sense. So Antonio made the dumb play.

Good. At least we won't have to endure 8 episodes of all of Phil's comments this year.

Getting in with top 2 and 2nd nut FD? Not really dumb

This is what card player said which makes no sense either
quote:
Picking up the action after the turn, the board read KQ93 and Chau Giang bet 7,000.
Antonio Esfandiari raised the action to 15,000 and Giang moved all in. Esfandiari made the call and the players turned over their cards:
Giang: J10
Esfandiari: KQ
Giang had an open-ended straight draw but his flush draw was dead to Esfandiari’s better draw that went along with his two pair. The river then brought the K, giving Esfandiari a full house and Giang was sent packing

There is a lot of this story that is missing. I just called Pash, since hes prob eating with his brother right now, to get the actual story but he didnt answer.
All the story tells is that Chau bet 7k and Antonio min raised. Nothing about pre flop action, flop action or chip counts. We don't even know how much was in the pot going to turn or what the total pot was before he called Chau's AI. I dont really see a scenario though going into the dinner break of Day 1 and commiting 15k to the turn, Chau having enough chips to get Antonio to fold top 2 and FD. Esp since it wasnt Antonios tourney life on the line.

wow.
quote:
There was a board of 10h-7d-8h-Qh-Qs out when we caught a peek at the Red section's featured table. Carlos Mortensen was the one doing the betting, carefully plucking 3,500 chips from his ornate fortress and flicking them into the pot. His opponent promptly raised to 15,200 total, and that took Mortensen aback. He tanked for a long while, eventually asking, "If I fold, you show?"
"No," his opponent said flatly, but Mortensen folded anyways, flashing Ah4h in the process! That surprised everyone at the table, most notably the raiser.
"I thought I had you beat but I didn't."

When we arrived at the table the flop was {4-Hearts}{3-Spades}{2-Spades} and Evelyn Ng fired a 6,600-chip bet from the small blind. On the button, her opponent moved all in, and Ng called.
Showdown
Ng: {8-Spades}{8-Hearts}
Evelyn: {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}
The turn card was a {3-Clubs} and the river brought a {k-Spades} to the felt, Evelyn Ng doubled up. She's now up to 53,000 chips
Another funny misprint glad she didnt get rivered by herself
