And even Pop came within a breath of getting run out of SA on a rail before the '99 title. Was extremely unpopular for a stretch.

BTW I was checking my replies earlier and saw your Suns comment, I would never have bet on them. I don't really follow the NBA the last few years, I am a Lakers fan and I only watch the Suns because they are always on at the bar. I do think once they gel they will be good but IDK how long it will take them to figure it out.

Rumors that Joerger almost got fired last season after the Grizz got off to a slow start and he has won 3 COM awards since then

That's ridiculous. Too many folks knee-jerk when it comes to coaching. Yes, it's vital, but it's not the only variable when it comes to how well a team gels. Even the best coaches in history had humble beginnings and/or extended rough stretches.

I'd hate to be a coach today in this environment. Tough way to make a dollar.

Like I said, the only reason I even give the tiniest of fricks about them is because its more fun at the bar when they are winning, but if their guards can gel they could be good!

I'm not sure I believe that, considering the fiasco the Grizzlies went through to fire Hollins.

New owners Ranadive and Burkle are serious biz men, and have high expectations, both with former partial ownerships of some winning organizations.

Cutting bait on Malone despite decent W-L column, shows their slim tolerance, and clash of idealogy. It surely isn't just the 5-1 start has become 11-13, and being 2-7 without Cousins.

That franchise/roster is a long ways from being a serious player again. Maybe Corbin can get them a solid 3rd place Pacific finish and permanent gig? But, I doubt it, they'll want an splash hire.

Firing Lionel wasn't much of a fiasco, but the rumors of Joerger possibly being forced out was all over the place this summer. It is why he almost took the Twolves job.

Another long-term candidate to monitor for the Sacramento Kings coaching job, league sources tell Yahoo Sports: Vinny Del Negro.

I've recently decided that people are too quick to label coaches bad. Like players, many take years to develop. Kevin McHale is in his 6th NBA season (2 weren't full seasons in Minny), and he is finally getting the hang of it. If a coach peaks and the team can't get over a certain hump in the playoffs, that's one thing. But I think it's good for a coach to be able to grow with an under the radar team.

Not shocked, this is the same owner who wanted his team to play 4 on 5 on defense and have one guy Cherry pick.
ok, this has me thinking crazy thoughts now.

How about some sort of a zone defense (1-3-1 or 1-2-2 possibly) where the guy playing defense at the top of the arch is playing backwards, essentially facing his own basket the whole time. That would be a crazy look that could throw a team off for a possession or two until they figured it out (in high school or smaller college leagues maybe).

Ranadive formerly a small stakes SA & GS owner, will want a functional O, and/or Offenisve mindset HC.

VDN has always been that since NC St days dropping the deep ball.

Yup, and this is the first time he has had a decent team, considering the injuries last year. If McHale was fired last year, I wouldn't have complained, but now I think he is one of the better coaches in the league. He's the same guy. Just learned more. And hell, last year was the first good team he coached.

Hou is a top 5 to 7 major metro, has great facility, strong ownership, fan support, can attract top FAs,etc..

Their expectations vs say NO's..should be apple and orange.

Bingo, he didn't just grow an IQ, just got more good parts, players jelling together in system, and becoming more established vets/stars in their prime of today's league.
