I loved the highlights of Super Bowl XXI captured by NFL Films and Phil Simms’ legendary performance, that game really might’ve gone to the Broncos if the Big Blue Wrecking Crew doesn’t keep them out of the end zone that goal line stand down 10-7, LT per usual made the greatest defensive play of the game stopping Elway on the run-pass option play 1st down then Karlis sets the SB record for shortest field goal miss, swung the momentum to the G-Men, the music they play in that doc really illustrated what that series of downs meant for the game’s momentum and outcome

the Ravens 34-7 over the Giants was a real dud.

i mean the Ravens D was super impressive but that game was not interesting at all really.

When Dilfer hit Stokley early in that game for a TD that game was over.

The Redskins drubbing of the Bills at the Metro Dome was also pretty boring. The Bills finally put some points on the board but the Redskins had gotten out to such a good lead.

Dallas blasting Buffalo at the Rose Bowl was a wash. Jim Kelly goes down and its see you later Bills. Although even had that not happened Dallas would of have won but the game just got boring quick.

my favorites are:

1) Saints-Colts (obviously)
2) Bills-Giants (Norwood miss at end)
3) Denver-Green Bay (Elway finally wins one)
4) Giants-Pats (the 1st one)
5) Pats-Seahawks (Butler INT)

that game was the first time I got a lesson from Dad on how a game shouldn't be defined by one play. I remember him saying how there times where Buffalo had a chance to make some plays but didn't.

and that play was one of the ones he talked about. You might think i'm full of shite but he's been dead for years now yet it was times like those that stick with me. He also talked about how that safety that Bruce Smith got on Hostetler and how Smith nearly ripped the ball away from him and caused a fumble in the endzone. But Hostetler gripped the ball firmly at that moment and prevented a potential disaster.

How did Tom Landry not win more Super Bowls? Part of me thinks he’s overrated

Because the 1970s Steelers may have been the best team of all time compared to their peers. Teams from the 70s would get clobbered today because of the size of the lines of scrimmage, but in their era, the gap between them and everyone else may have been more than anyone in history.

NFL Films back in the 60s-80s was so legit.

the clip of Marcus Allen's TD run in the Super Bowl is one of my favorites.

That goalline stand by the Cowboys in the first Cowboys-Bills Super Bowl meant so much to that blowout Bc the Bills were about to tie that game and the complexion probably would’ve been so different

Watching the 1971 right now.

Funny thing about this one. The footage of what is supposed to be Baltimore’s game winning kick is actually a PAT from earlier in the game. It’s way too close to be a 32 yarder.

that play was remarkable.

the way they synced the Raiders radio call in with that music was brilliant also. When i would sit there and watch the marathon every morning of the Super Bowl, that game was one that i did not miss.

the America's Game clip is great too.

The desperate attempt of #52 to make the tackle just speaks volumes of that entire Super Bowl.

That cornerback tandem of Haynes-Hayes shut the then-highest scoring offense in NFL history DOWN that day, was a thing of beauty, the Hogs sure were devoured that Super Bowl vintage classic Raiders football

My favorite highlight of NFL SB films was Old Man Willie:

I thought, how did they get this close-up on a long shot?

NFL films under Ed Sabol were so skilled.

the marathon is pretty cool for the older SB games but the modern day ones are just sort of meh.

I feel the same way. A big part of it is that I enjoy watching highlights of the ones I was too young to see or remember. But, the ones I lived through, I just remember them too well to care too much.

America's Game is the same way.

The new ones suck because they do them too quick.

The old ones are great because enough time has passed to get really cool stories.

The new ones are just, yeah we won...the players aren't remotely as appreciative or wistful because they are still playing.

I wish there was a channel that just replayed every televised game from the 50's until now. I would watch those games from the 50s and 60s all day long.

The 49ers’ performance in that Denver Super Bowl against a prime John Elway offense and the NFL’s no. 1 defense qualifies not only as the greatest collective team performance in a Super Bowl, it arguably qualifies as the greatest team performance in a pro football game period, aside from a missed Mike Cofer PAT everything the Niners did turned to gold
