Will playing Edelman at DB come back to bite the Patriots

So I have been thinking about the Patriots and their use of Edelman on defense. About a month ago I asked my friend who is a Patriots fan about his use and his response was "I trust Bill Belichick."
What is the MSB's opinion on whether #11 will end up costing the Patriots in the big game?
Also, is Belichick overrated? It would seem to me that there would have to be someone out there that was available that was better than Edelman. It was obvious that Boldin abused him down the stretch and one would think that the G-Men will make sure that they are aware of where Edelman is lined up.
Manningham wants to see Edelman on the field
During crunch time of Sunday’s AFC title game, the Patriots used one man to cover Ravens receiver Anquan Boldin when Boldin lined up in the slot.
That one man wasn’t a defensive back. It was receiver Julian Edelman.
And so when the Giants bring Hakeem Nicks, Victor Cruz, and Mario Manningham to the line in nine days, Manningham hopes to see Edelman on the other side of the field.
“I hope he’s out there when we play them,” Manningham tells the Boston Herald. “I don’t want to sound like that, but you know what I mean. To our advantage, I hope he’s out there. . . .
“It’s a different stage. This ain’t regular season. That ain’t your real position, so we’re going to try to expose you. It’s all or nothing now. That ain’t your position, this is the Super Bowl and we want you to play that position.”
Comments like that will serve to motivate Edelman, but how much will that matter? He’s playing out of position by necessity, and he couldn’t keep up with Boldin. Bob Glauber of Newsday predicted during today’s PFT Live that, if Edelman lines up against Cruz in the slot, Cruz will “destroy” him.

The fact that he has a decently ranked scoring defense with a guy like Edelman seeing significant time on defense makes him not overrated.

If they try to have Edelman cover Cruz they're going to be in some serious trouble. Vic will destroy them

People said that about Troy Brown in 01 and he made some good plays on defense
Not saying Its the same thing, but Belicheck wouldnt put him out there if he didnt trust him
Im loving the trash talk by the Giants right now. They can try all they want to make themselves the under dog but thats just not the case

Considering the Giants made that record setting offense look pedestrian I'm nor sure they give a frick.

Just because you can defend one thing doesnt mean you can defend all of them
Patriots were a vertical passing team so it killed them when the Giants could get there so fast because they didnt have time to go through their routes and prgressions
Gonna be a lot harder to get to Brady this time when hes throwing it a lot sooner and to those two TEs(both didnt play in that game and together are way more dangerous of a weapon than Moss was because of teir versitility)

Elis way better now than 07, though the run game is much worse. We beat the pats without bradshaw and nicks already. Plus the d is playing better now. I like our chances.

I feel quite confident that the Patriots will get significantly more rushing yards than the 45 total yards they ran for in that game !

It almost did last week when Boldin schooled him on the last drive.

Why would the giants think its the 07 offense when theyve already played the 11 offense?

Good point. I guess I mean the media
I just rewatched that game and we ran the ball really well. I dont know how we didnt get blown out in that one either, everything that could have went wrong, did.

I wonder how hurt Gronk is? The dad's statement may have been done purposefully to mislead the Giants.

And this is why Belichick isn't overrated. If a member of the Patriots was stupid enough to utter such retarded bulletin board material, he would be punished pretty harshly.

If Brady had even a halfway decent game, that last drive wouldn't have mattered, ergo he was putting his trust in the offense more than defense by using that roster spot on a more offensively sided player. Our safeties are also complete garbage, there's a reason they keep moving DMc to safety. The upgrade in having him on the tail end is so large that it is better to leave him back there than have him play his position, which he was a second team all-pro at last year with somewhat decent safety play. Fwiw, Edleman is probably a better cover corner than any of those safeties that would see the field as a quarters DB.

I get what your saying but regardless of how Brady plays next weekend the game is going to be close IMO. So this #11 could end up being a liability.

This is something no one seems to be mentioning. Everyone talks about the previous matchup in the Super Bowl, but the Patriots' offense is almost completely different. They were a vertial Al Davis and the Raiders offense that was severely hindered by the Giants' pass rush. The newly improved West Coast attack will minimize the Giants' pass rush.
Having said that, I still like the Giants for a couple of reasons.
1. Their passing game is going to drive New England nuts. New England was fortunate enough not to play anyone in the playoffs with a passing game. I expect Eli to look like a HOFer in this game.
2. The AFC is just significantly worse than the NFC. There wasn't really an elite team in that conference all year long. Hell the best team was a healthy Houston but they had too many injuries.
