I'm sure race comes in to it, but explain why nobody treats Venus the same way?
Serena doesn't come off as an even-tempered or nice person. Anyone like that draws a lot of detractors. More than Hope Solo, because she's a much bigger personality in a traditionally bigger sport.
But, I did think she was pretty gracious this week, to her credit.

Christian Laetner is one of the greatest college basketball players of all-time and is white. Yet he is probably the most hated player of all time in the sport.
The better a player (or team) is, the more fans will fall on the extreme side of the love/hate spectrum. It's just the nature of sports and fans that follow it.
This is why people are calling out the race baiters here and why anyone lazy enough to go there is a retard.

When the competition was strong in the women's game, and it had a lot of nationality to it, many good nations being rep'd. I was more then happy to pull for the American

We've had the benefit of seeing a softer and far more likable McElroy in time.
If Serena goes on to become a sensible and likable commentator, the hate for her will diminish. Plus being out of competition, even momentarily, helps.
Saban is hated by a lot of folks, but his roles as a guest commentator, even while still coaching, have made people despise him less.

Serena hate is overblown. The only people who even mention it are those who want to push some racial agenda because that is the thing to do now days. Frankly, no one gives a crap about her or the sport she plays. I'll wait for the ESPN special on why people hate her....
Seriously though....people don't like her because she's really good and acts like an arse due to her competitveness. Same reason people hate all the greats. Being black only adds icing on the cake for the retards who defend or celebrate her.
