No use to even try to justify it. People here think their athletes are loved all over the world and amazing, and frankly, people like Messi, Ronaldo, Rooney, Henry, Ibrahimovic have more world star power than your average football/basketball/baseball star.

Soccer is intense when people learn recognize how conditioned you have to be, how much time it takes to become good, etc. You sometimes hear about a basketball star in high school successfully starting football late to still become a star. Soccer, that isn't happening, period.

I agree. Just don't see how you can hate something you don't know or gave a chance to. If you're not interested don't join the discussion or change the channel when it comes on.
it's ignorance. it's just like the people that dislike basketball because they think they're all thugs.

i don't like soccer and have no interest in watching it. i'm not going to make fun of people who watch it or play it though.

If you hate it, what are your reasons?

People feel tough and cool to hate certian things like soccer and cats. It makes you stonger if you openly express hatred for these things.

I think you've got to realize that you don't know what you are talking about, and are hardly an accurate cross-section of America.

Soccer is growing in America at a very fast rate. I don't really care if it becomes "popular."

No one follows college soccer. It's only pro leagues. And even Tennessee averaged less than the MLS.

ESPN and Fox have all recently signed contracts to pick up nationally broadcasted events for games they don't even involve the USA. Find it hard to believe they would do this if they didn't think the general public would latch on and didn't recognize it's growing popularity

A lot of reasons.

For one, it's boring as hell. I don't see how people can watch it and get so excited.

The fans are bigger idiots than the Gumps. Killing refs? Stadium riots? Come on.

And another is because it was shoved down our throats when the World Cup was held in America in the 90s. Worse than the WNBA when it was formed.

I'm sure it's fun to play, but this is America dammit. And there's only one football.

The field is too big, it keeps scoring really low.

Its kinda boring and it counts up.
I guess I just don't get it.

You do realize this stuff is cyclical. The same thing happened in the mid 90s. The same thing happened with hockey and the WNBA.

Networks try new things with new audiences.
