Why Shouldn't Degrom be NL MVP?

He's been almost 2 wins better than the next best position player in the NL
He's had a better season than Kershaw did the year he won N: MVP
Wins and Losses are something irrelevant to judging the value of one individual MLB player unlike in say the NBA
I'd love to hear the arguments against

So valuable his team is 20 games under .500

He has pitched/played in 217 innings. That breaks down to less than 25 total games (he has pitched in 32). I don't get how someone that appears in less than 1/5th of the games can be the most valuable player in the league.. By comparison Yelich has played 1252 innings..

cause he's only played in 19% of his team's games.
Imagine thinking that is more valuable than what Yelich has done down the stretch, or Javy Baez who has started & played plus defense 75x at 2b, 50 at SS, and 20 at 3B, going 20/20, leading the league in RBI
all because of......WAR!!!!

This may be an unpopular opinion but I don't think pitchers should be considered for MVPs at all.
MVP: position players
Cy Young: pitchers
MVP: position players
Cy Young: pitchers

Yellich is about to hit for the triple crown on an nl central winning team. He is the mvp

How many of Degrom's starts did the Mets win? How many of Baez' starts did the Cubs win?

The innings argument does not make any sense. First of all, an everyday position player does not get to hit every inning. Nor do they get a fielding opportunity every inning. Secondly, deGrom has recorded more outs (651) than Yelich has had 643 plate appearances during the year. Also, an everyday corner OF's defensive impact is limited. How many plays has Yelich made this year defensively that a normal outfielder wouldn't make? If Yelich had more of an opportunity to make an overall impact on the game, it certainly wasn't by that much. And if you compare the two players seasons, deGrom had a much better year.

The outs argument is even dumber. The outs are still confined to those 32 games he has played in. Yes a pitcher direct affects the game more than a hitter in a vacuum. But it is still only confined to 32 games, in DeGromm's case.
His great performance in 1 game cans still only account for 1 win in that game. It doesn't carry over; it doesn't affect other games. 1 game. 32x.

I’m more interested to see if he’s gonna win the Cy Young unanimously. Any voter without him first on their ballot, should lose their vote, IMO.
