Doesn’t traction have a weekday league
Honestly haven’t checked this year but it usually dies off after 12, not from a lack of them trying but kids tend to quit at that 13 year old mark in droves.

Ascension Parish has a rec league but it’s garbage. They switched from Babe Ruth to USSSA a few years ago. Full of meth addicts and people who love to steal money from the league.
Gonzales has Dixie baseball but not sure how good that league is anymore

Back in the early to mid 90’s if you were any good you played at Millerville for 11-12 then moved up to Squires league at Episcopal or Pony league at Jimmy Swaggert’s. Had a lot great players come through there

Is 13U and up still considered “Little League”?
I grew up playing in BREC leagues over off Airline near state fair grounds.

From what I have heard, Morgan City tore down the famous swamp gardens in that city which is supposed to be famous for one of the original Tarzan movies just to put more Little League fields in. I guess that’s cool but MC hasn’t had any kind of team that has even been good enough to come close to what Laplace did last year or what west Lake Charles does almost every year. MC just doesn’t have the population to have a team good enough no matter how many fields you make. The population in MC has dropped from like 18,000 to like 9,000 in the last 25 years.... that’s a huge drop off.....

I don't see AA being anything like league. I had kids in league until this past season and AA is essentially all stars. AAA is a huge step up and majors is stupid competitive.
I was an extreme travel ball hater until I gave in this past year. Everything about it is better if you find a good team.
Now frick paying 5k like I have heard traction pays. 1000-2000 should cover 8-10 tournaments, play at plate fees, uniforms, helment and bat bags and have enough to pay the coaches a little.
Key is finding a good coach and team that is going to treat your kid like their own and protect his arm. Much better to find a AAA team like that and spend money on lessons rather than overpaying just to have your kid on a majors team.
Just remember you don't really get better playing games. Nor do you really get better practicing 2 times a week with the team.
What sucks now a days, if you are going to any high school with a competitive program, you really have to make a decision by 10 if you wanna play in high school and really start getting serious with skill development. Still need to play atleast one other sport or do gymnastics or the ninja warrior classes though to build athleticism in all 3 planes.
Ball is 100% different then even 20 years ago. The skill development of even the good 7u teams is crazy.
Oh and besides not needing to pay stupid amounts of money for teams, don't get on teams that travel the country, that's dumb unless they are 16-17 and a legit college prospect. And even then remember only 11.7 scholarships for 27 players, academic scholarships are way better.

Why have LL, just to lose to dem boys from River Ridge??

Where do 13U and up play?
Mostly showcase travel ball. 13 and up in LL (Senior League) was always garbage. 12U is what LL is known for.

There was American Legion and Babe Ruth back when I was young.
We played Dizzy Dean 9-12, then Babe Ruth 13 - 15. Legion was for high school kids. This was in Kenner. I think JPRD did Dixie Youth instead of Dizzy Dean, then Babe Ruth at 13.
Here's the thing. You played a few warm up tournaments which were fun, then you went to district. If you didn't win district, you didn't advance. District, state, regional, national. None of this "everyone goes to a world series USSSA" crap.

AA is still essentially quality league ball. There’s some good players but many seem better Bc there isn’t any quality league play in BR.. my oldest played a lot of league and travel and the best league was essentially a school league where the kids needed to go to same school or basically same church... his league team all went to school together so it worked for them
Traction isn’t 5k. More like 2.5. It is what it is for many but you have access to facilities and coaches.. still a lot but unless you organize the team and finances as an individual entity, you’re going to pay to be a part of a larger organization who handles everything. Finding practice facilities is a huge barrier in the area for many teams

Maybe at the older ages, but almost all of the 8u teams we played this year would have destroyed every little league all star team in the lake Charles area. I know I coached my oldest in that last year. Hell most of the 7u teams would have too.

I was told 5k when we played over there still 2500 is prolly more than any in our area, even majors teams that are 13-16u. We don't have an issue in the LC area finding facilities at all. Guess that's the difference, don't need to finance facilities.

Back in early 80s we played Legion at Sharp Rd.

Hearing these prices I cringe...My son has played travel since he was 7. He’s 10 now and plays on a Major team. Pretty much the same group of boys the whole time. We have never been to a World Series and don’t think we will. And as far as money, we pay $15 a month for Practice facility, around $150 for uniforms, and $30 average for tournament fees when we go and that’s it.

quote:AA is just like league, a few decent players and a few that cant play. The two year grouping in league insures that they will have a couple older kids on each team that are decent. Hell, my boys team played a AAA team a couple weeks ago and they were spectacularly bad.

Majors is very competitive among the top 10-12 teams. Depth of pitching is a huge separator, there are no stat building at bats to be had.
quote:WHole heartedly disagree. My kids team has one player that takes lessons, the rest practice with the team 2-3 times a week. They are salty and can compete THey aren't the best, but they are damn good 5 of em have been together since 8U.
Just remember you don't really get better playing games. Nor do you really get better practicing 2 times a week with the team.

I was at a tournament this weekend and heard a mom in the stands yell to "Easton."
About 6 kids on the field as well as the batter turned their heads.

Well he’s a decent player but probably wasn’t as good as the boys that’s been playing for years. The coach thought he was an MLB coach only thing worse were most of the parents, just fricking rude selfish people My grandson was 10 at the time told me that he now hated baseball, I talked my daughter into letting him quit( he wasn’t getting much playing time anyway) I was out a couple hundred but learned a valuable lesson. frick TRAVEL BALL
Screw travel ball.

Its been said 1000 times on here, travel ball is not for everyone. Obviously it wasn’t for your grandson. It sounds like to me that your daughter put him in travel ball when he wasn’t nowhere near as good as y’all thought he was and got y’alls feeling hurt
