I understand what a perfect game is in present day baseball but to me it's technically not perfect , anyway thought I could have a reasonable discussion but should have figured what the responses would be

What is more perfect, one pitch ground ball outs to 27 straight batters faced, or 3-pitch strikeouts to 27 batters faced?

At the end of the game, a perfect game is simply facing the minimum number of batters without letting a runner on base. The method of the out does not matter... the out is what matters.

This is why you are catching crap in this thread.

This thread reminds me... I have a niece who pitched a no-hitter in her softball game a few years ago. They lost the game 40 - 0. She walked every damn batter she faced and each inning was ended because of a 10-run rule per inning the league uses. At the end of the 4th inning, the 10 run-rule went into effect for the game. None of the other girls on her team would pitch because they were too scared. So my niece took it like a champ and went out for milk shakes after the game.

yes, yes. almost CSB.

Giving up no base runners all game long, retiring 27 batters in a row is nothing but perfection. Jesus Christ there's been an unlimited amount of retarded threads today.

Wouldn't a perfect game striking out every batter you face , all 27?

I bet you thought this thread would go differently when you first decided to post it. To answer your original question, No.

Pitchers would prefer first-pitch groundouts to strikeouts -- less wear on the arm

However in your defense, innings where the pitcher strikes out the side on 9 pitches ARE called "perfect innings"

Yeah I mistyped , just saying throwing only strikes all game to all batters, 81 strikes?

They have to whiff on every pitch.

If somebody grounds out on the first pitch then boom, the perfect game is over. I'm with you.

You've got to be kidding me.

Why in gods name are the brauds playing baseball if everyone is scares to pitch? The coach just let her stay out there and lets a girl walk every batter for four innings? He clearly does not need to be coaching a baseball game and none of the other girls deserves to play outside of your niece, and she needs to be playing outfield or something. I bet that one was a fun one to sit around and watch.

No...an out is an out, regardless of how you get it.

27 pitches and 27 outs would be perfect.

Has there ever been a shortened perfect game...fewer than 9 innings due to weather, etc?

So just what would you call a game where the defense doesn't allow any batter to safely reach first base?

An "almost perfect" game?
A "no baser"?

Head high line outs to infielders are clean...no throws, stretches, scoops, diving, drama, excitement involved...maybe 27 line outs would be more perfect than 27 out of another kins...27 first pitch line outs!
