re: Why is ESPN always so repetitive?

ESPN has 24 hours per day of time to fill
They are a business, so they will report anything sports related in such a way that gains viewers and entices advertisers
Clearly everyone here who says they don't watch are either liars or in the minority. ESPN isn't going under financially anytime soon and they obviously aren't hurting for viewers.
I for one thought they covered the Michael Sam ordeal much LESS than I had anticipated. Even if they do "over cover" stories I feel aren't a big deal, I am clearly not the majority of their audience and as a business, I expect them to do what is financially advantageous for them.

Honestly, it wasn't the kissing for me that was strange...it was the cake smearing. I fully expect any couple to kiss in a moment like that. I don't expect a sensual food fight to take place on anyone's face on a sports network.

why are people still watching this garbage.
MNF and that's it. The last time I watched ESPN was when the saints got housed by the hawks.
The more PC and BS the NFL becomes, the less I'm interested in that.
Seriously, ESPN is the lowest tier of television

Growing up all I watched was ESPN because they showed constant highlights. That is not the case anymore and I rarely watch it unless there is a game on. After the garbage that was on there after this weekend I definitely will not be watching. I will make it a point to watch something else. I do not support that trash and don't want to watch it.

ESPN should apologize for the two men kissing and the cake. There is absolutely no other reason to air that except to gain PR and push some social agenda.

If they have all this airtime to fill then they shouldn't ingore hockey, half the night's NBA games, 3/4ths of the night's MLB games, College football's non SEC games, College basketball's non Duke games, etc...
Um...what?

He is right.. Sportscenter isn't even close to what it used to be... They basically show Home Runs from MLB hightlights, They start in the 4th quarter of every NBA game they hightlight,The highlights portion of the show is terrible... They are trying to be a sports -news station instead of just showing highlights....

It's very recent too. Just a couple years ago I remember I could watch ESPN in the morning and catch some highlights of the baseball game I missed. Not anymore.

Does it bother you when they show straight people celebrate?

I was kind of getting worried for the MSB.
hadn't seen an ESPN bitch fest in awhile.
at least I hadn't seen one in awhile .
not disagreeing with anything you said though.
I only watch the games for the most part.
maybe sometimes I'll watch NFL Primetime of NFL Countdown but nothing like I use to.

If AJ McCaaron would have smeared cake all over his girls face and made out with her, he would be getting absolutely blasted.

1. They've got to fill 24 hours, 365 days a year. There's going to be a ton of repition.
2. With that comes the fact that they have to "create" sports stories. It's why non-events become "news" and minor stories become HUGE stories.
3. ESPN is evolving like MTV has. It used to be primarily ball games. Now, the execs see their network as a tool to dictate public opinion.
It's moreso because I have gotten older and don't have the free time to do so, but I don't find myself watching ESPN very often outside of an actual ballgame. While I'm still a HUGE sports fan, I couldn't care less about College Game Day, NFL countdown, etc. I've got better and more important stuff to do that watch analyst talk about the pre/post game. Just call me when the actual game starts.

I watched NFLN for what I watched of the draft and haven't watch a sports network since it ended.
But I would assume the guy's argument goes like this: they have enough time to talk about Michael Sam and Johnny Football 8 times in a one-hour show, but the still don't have time to show all the baseball highlights.
If they have 24 hours of time to fill and not a lot of stuff, you'd think they'd get to the Twins-Indians game eventually.
Thank god for MLB Network. They do it right so far.

If they are smearing cake all over each other's face, yes...yes it does.
The kiss is whatever. Doesn't bother me either way. It's just weird watching a couple of any sex smear cake and be mushy gushy like that on live TV.
But if we are going to argue that he didn't want preferential treatment, then ESPN shouldn't have been there to begin with.
As a person, if you are going to say "it's all about football and not my sexuality", then don't let ESPN set up shop at your house and don't make a huge flamboyant scene for attention, knowing full well the cameras are on you.
I'd bet most people don't care that he's gay. But he seems pretty disingenuous as an individual saying one thing yet doing another.

Ask your average American sports fan what sport they'd rather hear news/see highlights about. A majority will say football over baseball.
No one outside of people in Minn or Ohio gives two craps about a Twins-Indians game. Baseball is, at best, the 3rd most popular sport in this country. Even then I'm skeptical of 3rd.
There are two times of year for most American sports fans: Football Season and that time in between waiting for football season. ESPN recognizes this and capitalizes on it.
ESPN is a business that wants to make money. Evidently, the majority of people are okay with the way ESPN repeats stories, or I'd imagine they wouldn't still be on air.
