Southern and Grambling are play in Salt Lake City the night before the NBA All-Star game.

Apparently, you are not familiar with Bayou Classic weekend. You have over 30,000 people at the Battle of the band which lasts until around 10 pm or later. And the two school alumni have events all night the night before the game.

I am though, hence an “added layer“ of festivities.

In short, it would have to become a part of the event schedule, meaning the current calendar of events would have to be analyzed, and potentially adjusted.

Sorry they won't rearrange the schedule of 50-70k fan games

So that's been the actual attendance the past 5 years?

Because they have an annual date to get hammered by the MEAC champion.

This board is so obsessed with HBCUs.

Another "you wouldn't understand" topic? We have to hear constantly that the HBCU's don't get enough attention, then attention is given on a legitimate topic and question, and you would rather it shut down.

Long term, all of the HBCU's would be better off if they were consistently represented in the playoffs. THAT would eventually raise the level of play across the board and give them something tangible and non segregated to play for.

1. They make more $$$ from the Celebration Bowl.

2. The Bayou Classic and SWAC Championship happen after the playoff selection.

3. They would get dominated and that would not be good for HBCU pride.

4. They are HBCUs and HBCUs deserve special attention.

What SWAC team beat McNeese this year?

Is this an attempt at a brag or something?

We had like 50 or 60 underclassmen on the roster this year...we sucked as a result...

FCS HBCU football is probably more D2 level rather than D1.
The same is true for the D2 HBCUs, they may be closer to D3 level. As they don't traditionally do well in the playoffs either.
Wish come true I'd prefer consistent Sweet 16 runs ... Maybe a few Elite 8 runs over the next couple decades than 5 consecutive FCS football Championships at a near financial loss. The finances & profile is more meaningful than the near irrelevant FCS playoffs ( Women's Basketball tournament is more popular/ lucrative/ relevant ).

JSU/ Southern should compromise or give up the Classic ( 60-65 k) , SWAC Championship ( 40k plus) & the $2 million dollar payout to the Celebration Bowl ( 40k plus) . On national TV with better ratings , money & attendance than the FCS playoffs / Championship game ? Pass.

f they have more fans than anyone else in FCS, you’d think they’d have the money to compete eventually… bet it all goes to the bands
