Why doesn’t the “first four” pick just 16?

It seems odd that they admit there are 4 teams good enough to be 11th seed trying to play their way in. Couldn’t they just put the 8th worst teams in the first 4?

Because the last group in are typically still better than the smaller conference auto-bids.

Are the auto bids guarantees any specific seed? Or to be in the round of 64?

Because no one watches the 16 seed match ups. Dayton would have no one there if it were 8 16 seed teams playing each other.
They want those bigger programs going there for ratings and to fill the gym.

Because there are some shitty teams that get in by winning their conference.

They take the 4 worst auto bids and 4 worst at large bids.
How many people would legitimately watch if it was a bunch of tiny schools who are 16 seed level duking it out? It's basically a small conference tournament.
More viewers tune in for the at large teams and higher quality matchups.

I’m not sure what you’re trying to ask due to the version of English you used, but I believe the 11 seed is the last at-large bid. 12-16 seeds are auto bids.
