Why mess with a good thing? If the NFL just took the 1990s rulebook but kept instant replay that shite would be awesome.

And players would be dying on the field. "Bigger, stronger, faster" has created all kinds of problems for the league.

If you die you’re doing it wrong.... are you serious with that argument how many people have died in the NFL? I cannot even think of one player other than the Bills kicker who pushed it right against the Giants. No one dies in rugby and they are getting bigger stronger faster with same rules from the 1700s

Just about every sport changes rules every year.

Because they’re getting sued by players who blame them for their CTE and painkiller addictions

Two reasons:
1. Decrease liability present and future
2. Ensure future fans and talent to sustain the league. If they don't make rule changes that eventually trickle down to the youth level, moms and dads won't let their kids play. And if the kids don't play, they are less likely to be interested in the sport as they age thus decreasing TV revenue/owner revenue/player salaries.

It's to confuse the refs and fans.

2. The NFL wants its good players to be as healthy as possible and should do everything in their power to try to have them be as healthy as possible. It's not good for business when your good players are not playing.
