Why does baseball still have AL/NL awards

Why doesn’t Manfred kill that off too?
Posted on 10/31/23 at 9:37 pm to cubsfan5150
Since that’s the way they’ve always done it?

Manfred has killed off a lot of “always done it” things

Nothing more rewarding than the announcers celebrating people tying/breaking World Series records against a team that was like 12 best in the 30 team MLB.

You play the team in front of you. Rangers are taking care of business. If you don’t like it maybe somebody should have knocked off the D-Backs.

Or quit trying to make MLB into the NBA.

Smoltz is constantly sucking the D-backs dick while acting like the Rangers were some kind of pre-season contender.
The angled coverage throughout the entire postseason by Fox for the rangers has been hilarious to watch.
Always a, ‘they’re (Baltimore & Arizona) ahead of schedule, their players are getting seasoned’ and, ‘The rangers are built for this moment’.
Only thing I can think of is that he can not fathom the only MLB franchise without a pride night winning it all.

I think Smoltz is a horrendous color man but the take is accurate. He's talking about systems that actually develop quality players..
The rangers spent over half a billion on a middle infield... the highest paid player on the Dbacks is Marte at $11.5 million, the rangers have 11 players making more than that. You can act like y'all are the little engine that could all you want but anything short of a title with $260 million in salary would be considered a colossal failure. Free agency just never worked for the rangers until this season. New jerseys change how you view a player but I prefer the homegrown talent when fans watch a player grow up and develop a relationship with them.
Congrats tho, buying a championship is one way of winning it

RANGERS (48.6 WAR, 3rd among 12 teams)
Homegrown: 4 (8.1 WAR)
• Draft: 2 (4.0 WAR)
• International: 2 (4.1 WAR)
Free agents: 9 (20.4 WAR)
Trades: 13 (20.1 WAR)
D-BACKS (38.3 WAR, 11th among 12 teams)
Homegrown: 12 (10.2 WAR)
• Draft: 9 (7.7 WAR)
• International: 3 (2.5 WAR)
Free agents: 5 (4.3 WAR)
Trades: 8 (19.9 WAR)
Waivers: 1 (3.9 WAR)
While the biggest players for the Rangers (Degrom, Seager, Seimen, Eovaldi) came from Free Agency the Rangers have done well on the trade front with Garcia, Heim, Garver, Montgomery, and Lowe. Almost all of the homegrown WAR for the DBacks comes from Carroll who accounted for 5.5 WAR this season. Gallen, Moreno, and Marte were acquired in trades and Walker via waivers.

Has anyone actually met a lifelong Rangers fan in real life? Talk about bandwagon fans coming out of nowhere.

Again, rangers have two middle infielders who are paid twice as much as any Dback. The budget is dwarfed by the rangers and the rangers have no excuses with the talent gap.
The Astros however; have been sensational at developing big league ball players

John Smoltz could not possibly care less about pride night.

Why change? It’s pretty cool like it is.

Yeah he was forced to do appearances for MLB Network from home because he refused to get vaxxed. That’s a pretty good indicator.
