If this was a Bama player, ZERO LSU fans would be saying the same thing. They would all be making negative remarks about how he will do it again in the NFL and how he should not even be getting the chance.

lol shut up. there have been some Bama players that I've really liked over the yrs, and if they screwed up but looked to be making changes for the better, yes, I'd pull for them.

That being said, when you're a suspension away from being kicked out of school or you're on probation, then you need to be smart enough to say no. He put pot above his career and school. That isn't very bright

Oh please, maybe he didn't take it seriously enough, but to say he put pot above his career is overly dramatic. Was he immature? Yes. maybe arrogant thinking he wouldn't get kicked out? Sure, of course being immature and arrogant is pretty common among 18-22 y/old men.
If anyone thought a few failed drug test would jeopardize his career, they are naive or don't follow the NFL very closely.

think most people look at Mathieu the way that people look at Dez Bryant. I'm sure that there are some OSU fans that worship Bryant but most of the world thinks he's a moron

Bryant was arrested on a least one charge of domestic violence. That's different that getting high with your friends. As for the world thinking he is a moron, people who cares.

I give TM7 a pass because he is the best defensive college football player I have ever seen. Period. What he did on the field in terms of the instincts; batted balls, strips, etc, I have never seen before. Lsu doesn't lose a game last year if he plays.

Thats a bit overboard.

You could say the same thing about Teo, however a lot of people on here are saying he was exposed by a team loaded with NFL talent.

I didn't watch the ND-Bama game so I can't comment on his performance in that. I wasn't a huge Teo fan to begin with and was planing on starting a riot if he had won the Heisman.
I don't think Mathieu was a bad as portrayed even in the BCS CG. Bama ran some much taller WR at him and just because a pass was completed does not mean he didn't have decent coverage on the play. It's not like he got burned ala the Denver S v the Ravens. However, I never thought Mathieu was a first rounder to begin with.

Interesting..... espicially if you take into consideration the reason he didnt play for LSU last season.
Such contradicting statements.. I dont think some of you even realize it

I suppose I should ask this question/... Is your loyaly to a player or the school?
Some of you it's obv that it's to TM.... I just dont get that.

I just need to get this out of the way. You keep talking about loyalty to your school. Did you go to LSU?

I'm rooting damn hard for the Saints to pick him up Bc I think hell always have that chip on his shoulder to play with

Outside of the Raiders and maybe Bengals, The Saints are the absolute worst place for him imo, just because it is his home town. I think he needs to get away. A place like NE, Balt or Pitt would be ideal. Stable organizations with a history of turning troubled players around.

Mathieu got arrested for it after being kicked off the team. So I would say that getting kicked off the team should have been the point he got serious.

It loses guys a lot of money.

I still don't think most teams want a guy that got booted from his team, was arrested again, and had to go to rehab. The quotes from teams are showing this. Someone will take a chance on him but teams won't be lining up.

So it's not possible to want your school to succeed and also hop Mathieu succeeds at the next level.

What kind of person hopes a kid continues to screw up when he has so much talent that helped the team I root for?

I think he could be like Burfict this year. He's just got to get his chance and work his butt off.

I think that is true. A lot of the stable franchises won't take a risk on a guy with character concerns. I could see New England being a really good fit. Talib did very well there and they need talent in the secondary, undersized or not.

So he's immature, he was also what 20? Note sure how old you are, but I'm pretty sure I did not always make great decisions at 20

I think that is overblow and not really the right way to look at it. Besides, it's still a lot of money. If he was a chior boy he probably wasn't a first round pick anyway. The 2nd contract is where guys get paid and that one has no bearing on where you are drafted or what you did in college. Obviously he would have to play well and stay out of trouble.

all it takes is one and some teams would pass on him for FB reasons anyway. Teams that run a 4-3 probably won't take Mingo. Teams with good RB's won't take Lacy, it doesn't matter that some teams won't take him as long as some will.

why would you consider the 2 mutually exclusive? I root for Tyrann Mathieu because he went to LSU and was one of the most exciting players I've ever seen. Frankly only Chris Jackson was more spectular (different sport I realize) so early.

People want to praise Mathieus name and associate him with LSU if he is good in the NFL.
I personally have no remorse for the guy who put himself above the program and was given so many chances to come play college football again but instead he got caught smoking weed again with Jordan Jefferson.

I don't consider them mutually exclusive.

The poster I was replying to mentioned giving him a pass but in the same breath states LSU goes undefeated last yr with him playing.

I don't root against Tm or wish him any ill will.
However LSU's success is more important to me than mathieus. Period.

You don't live that lifestyle down there and stay out of trouble.

So you're implying that LSU was his ONLY option.

Gotcha.

I'm implying that being as he couldn't manage to stay straight while living under a pretty structured and stable environment which was being a member if LSU football team that things prob wouldn't have improved for him doing whatever in New Orleans.

I apologize if that is just that difficult for you to comprehend.
