Why is golf on a pedestal in relation to every other sport (aside from Tennis maybe?)?

Because you’re in a civilized setting not some barn. Manners and decorum are good you know.

Brian Regan had a funny bit about this.

Baseball: ball's coming at 95 mph, scream, taunt, do whatever you want.

Golf: ball's sitting perfectly still, don't make a sound

Most baseball players and golfers agree that constant noise isn't a bother.

It's a sudden noise that distracts.

Golf is silly in it needing to be constantly quiet. The grass doesn't care how well mannered you are. Neither do the golfers. Most pro golfers are degenerates in life.

Because golfers don't have the big balls that baseball players have.

No I am and I made a very intelligent first response but apparently you don’t understand what a barn is in terms of athletics.

Or did you want me to use Cage?

So what makes it a barn? Grass not manicured? Are the cows running around shitting everywhere?

But that still doesn't explain why we can't make noise during golf. It's all falls under the sorts umbrella. Are we trying to not consider good a sport?

This.

Scream at me all you want if I'm facing a 95mph fastball. All I'm doing is trying to react as fast as I can to the pitch so I probably won't hear you yelling anyway.

Golf fans are too close to players for this to happen. Sometimes they are a few feet away from the player hitting. It's not like that in other sports.

What's cool is what they've done at the TPC Scottsdale on the 16th hole. They built grandstands around the hole that holds 15k - 20k drunk screaming fans. It's a site to behold and most players enjoy it.

They could do more of this but not throughout the course. It would likely get ugly if a fan yelled at a player 10 feet away.

Basketball is sometimes 10 feet away when someone is shooting a potential game winning free throw.

Even so, so what? You're one of the worlds best st your sport. Deal with the noise.

The tradition in golf is etiquette and quiet. I'm sure they could get used to it if that's how it was, but it's not. It's pretty simple, if you don't like it don't watch it.
