Why are caught foul tips not outs with less than 2 strikes?

Why are foul balls strikes one and two but not three, unless it’s on a bunt?

Pitchers would dominate. Borderline pit he’s would be deadly. Batters would be afraid to swing unless the pitch was exactly what they were looking for and strike out a shite load regardless

It’s something about it having to be above a certain point for it to be an out

I figured it was because tipped balls are just like regular strikes. 3rd strike and you're out.

It's treated the same as a swing and a miss, according to the rule book. IDK why but is what it is.

Let's say a guy steals 2nd and he ball is foul tipped he stays at second if it's tipped and dropped he goes back to first. Crazy I know baseball is a strange sport.

BTW helping the batter does make sense. 3-0 ball that just hits the ball and goes into the glove is an out would be crazy.

Yeah but tipped ball is just made up to distinguish between foul ball.

It's still a foul ball...it's behind the plate and out of the play of field.

If you tip a ball into the glove, it's a strike.

If you pop up the ball behind the catcher even just a few feet, it's an out.

And more crazy is foul tips are live balls under two strikes. So runners can steal.

So if there's a runner on first and the catcher sees him stealing...he doesn't want to catch that foul tip. It just becomes another strike and the runner takes second.

But if he drops the foul tip it becomes a dead ball as a fouled hit.

So the runner has to return to 1st.
