The fourth CFP bye is going to be a massive problem already in year 1.

Byes 3/4 are likely going to the ACC and Big 12 but without the Pac12 it seems quite silly and quite an oversight for this year.

Miami will in all likelihood win the ACC with a loss or two and then in all likelihood you’re looking at either Utah or Kansas St who will be at best the 7-10th best team in the rankings and likely have 1-2 losses

Furthermore the 12th seed has to come from a non power league so it’s setting up that the 5th seed is going to have a real advantage -

Using this weeks rankings (parenthesis) you’d have:
1) Texas (1)
2) Ohio St (3)
3) Miami (7)
4) Utah (10)

5) Georgia (2) vs 12) Boise State (25)
6) Alabama (4) vs 11) Missouri (11)
7) Tennessee (5) vs 10) Penn State (9)
8) Ole Miss ( ) (6) vs 9) Oregon (8)

Georgia could realistically get Boise State, Utah as it’s first two games

Seems like they need a massive fix for year 2

The reason they put conference champions getting a bye, is so that you don’t get a situation where both teams in the conference title game are in the top 4 and they treat the conference title game like a preseason game

Should expand to 14 teams, top 2 conference winners get a bye. The ACC and Big 12 might still get only one team in. Give top 5 conference winners a playoff spot, like it’s done now.

Yeah and it’s really apparent that they’ve messed up already in September

The highest ranked Big 12 teams are #16 Iowa St #17 BYU #18 Utah and #20 Kansas State. Highly doubt any go undefeated let alone with only 1 loss

All vying for an automatic bye at #4

If UNLV (just an example)wins MWC annd finishes ahead of the Big 12 champs, does UNLV get a top 4 seed?

That’s how I’m reading it they’d get the #4 spot and then there wouldn’t need to be another G5 team

How does the revenue sharing work? Seems like the #5 seed would get an easy path and if they keep the revenue from the extra home game then that might be an advantage

Yep that’s what would happen and you can bet the rules would be changed immediately the next year. I don’t think people realize the legitimate possibility of that happening

Clemson will have something to say about that

Every conference champ should get a spot ... the three at large bids could be reserved for Notre Dame & P4 schools I've said this from day one many times...

I believe it is the four highest ranked conference champions, so yes.
