Allen. What he has done with the worst WR's in the league is mind blowing.
I think Allen the best player in the league. But since he won it last year, he’s not in the discussion this year. The way consistently make plays of 3rd and 4th down single handedly is unreal. He essentially has 6 straight season of 40+ TDs.
His leading receiver this year has 700 yards 4td. Try to name him without looking it up. His next two leading receiver are 2 avg tight ends.

It's definitely Stafford. But this season is very crazy for him. How does a guy suddenly win MVP at age 37 when he's never even finished top 5 in MVP voting for his career.

I’d give it to Maye. Take Maye off the Patriots and they’d be terrible.
Take Stafford off the Rams and they’d still be above average

The fact that Cam Newton and Matt Ryan got an NFL MVP and Drew Brees didn't, proves it's a BS award...

Or it could just be that Brees was never the best player in the league nor the most valuable player in the league.

Depends on what you mean by MVP. Best player this year? probably Stafford.
But then you have what i've now dubbed "The Tyrese Haliburton Rule"
Pacers were in the finals last season and are now in last place in the NBA and the difference is Haliburton is out. Give him the MVP!
Under this rule one could argue Daniel Jones or Joe Burrow lol

Brees was wrong place wrong time. Always had his best seasons when Peyton, Brady, or Rodgers were doing something historic.

The year Cam won? Yes he was.

It seems to me they moved the goalpost post to exclude Drew from the MVP in those two years. 2009 He had fewer yards than Peyton because he sat out the last game of the season (112 yards), one more TD than Peyton (34), higher passing completion % (70% - 68%), less interceptions (11 to 16), higher QB rate (110 to 100), Peyton was sacked less than Drew (20 to 10), Peyton was 14-2 and Drew 13-3.
So in 2009 they valued Yards, Sacks, and W/L record more than TD’s, Interceptions, completion percentage and passer rating.
In 2011 Drew had more yards than Rodgers (883 yards), Drew was sacked less than Rodgers (24 to 36) Rodgers was 15-1 and Drew was 13-3. Drew had one more TD (46), Drew had a higher passing completion % (71% - 68%), Rodgers had higher QB rating (122 to 110), and less interceptions (14 to 6)
So in 2011 they valued W/L, QB Rating and Interceptions more than Yards, TD’s, Completion%, Sacks.
The only common denominator in 2009 and 2011 that the two winners shared over Brees was the Win/Loss record. Drew should have won in 2011 if 2009 was the standard, or he should have won 2009 if 2011 was deemed the metric.

Yes?
They were both consensus 1st All-Pros across multiple publications and were named the MVP but multiple publications.
But Thibodeaux, 53, Alexandria says Drew Brees should have won it because muh checkdowns and fantasy football team!

You just can’t accept the fact that is obvious to everyone else: Brees was never the best QB in any season he played in the NFL and that’s why he was never really considered for MVP. Empty calorie tds and yards are great if you have him on your fantasy football team but that’s about all they are good for.

And Matt Ryan will be a HOFer too. What’s your point other than moving the goalpost?

It's quite simple: his competition at the QB position has regressed significantly. For the first 16 years of his NFL career Stafford has been, at best, a competent QB who would show flashes of brilliance every now and then. But because he is one of the few QBs left in the league who knows how to properly read a defense, he comes off looking much better than his counterparts.

Or it’s because he has had an all-time great QB season.

an all-time great QB season
Passing Yards: 4,707 (47th all time)
Passing Touchdowns: 46 (7th all time)
Interceptions: 8 (List stopped a 25 with 7)
Completion %: 64.9% (List stopped at 250th)
Passer Rating: 109.2 (33rd all time)
All this while playing 1 extra game than the other guys you're comparing him to

Cool, still an all-time great season even if you don’t like it.

Except it's not. Though I will grant you that it's an all-time great season for Matthew Stafford.
