I'm not going to go through all this thread, but anyone saying Nolan Ryan in his prime was better than Pedro Martinez in his prime, has no idea about baseball. Find Ryan's best season, I'll find 3 for Pedro that are better than it

I get it, but why the hell do people have to shite on Ryan? Hell, Babe Ruth was the career leader in HRs AND strikeouts when he retired.

Pedro was great, but give Ryan his due.

Saying Pedro in his prime is better than Ryan in no way shits on Ryan's career..... Seems a lot of you think otherwise though

For nostalgia's sake,
I'm going with Nolan Ryan.

He was big time when I played little league.
I had his youth model glove.

I'm pretty sure I had a Jose Canseco one too.

No, but some were all 'Ryan walked more batters than anyone, he was only 10 games over .500' etc. etc.

Both of those are true. Both of those are relevant to the discussion. Neither are shitting on his career. They are calling a spade a spade.

Ok? This thread is comparing Pedro and Ryan. Are those not relevant facts to add to the comparison?

And you need to realize that context means A LOT.

Go look at the ERA's and pitching statistics during Gibson's season. That was in an EXTREMELY pitching friendly time where the mound was 50% higher than it is now.

Pedro's prime is more impressive than Gibson's due to the era they pitched in. It's not really debatable.

which is a fact... Ryan was a great pitcher but looking at the ERA he played in vs what Pedro pitched in it makes Pedro all the more impressive. Ryan threw a lot of no-hitters and struck out a lot of people and he was one of the most durable pitchers ever, but Pedro was truly dominate

Pedro once had a game for the Expos where he retired 27 batters in a row. 27 up 27 down. The Expos managed to lose that game.
