Tiger IS NOT a bad guy off camera(marital issues aside). Not to drop sources again (it happens when you have friends who work for wealthy establishments in S. FLorida) but I know the dive master of his yacht. He apparently does a lot of free diving/spearfishing. Supposedly he is a really funny and somewhat down to earth guy and very easy to work for.

Before he died, Payne Stewart easily held the douche title.

That was pretty much the quote of Boo's that pissed me off.
I would give my left nut to have his talent and he seems to not care with that statement. And YES "I AM mad."
Maybe golf has gotten like a job for him. Nice problem to have though.

Read in a few places that he became more personable and likable to the players and fans the last year or so before he passed. before they, the consensus was he was just terrible.

Most of the reasons for someone being called a douche in this thread don't make them douches

Panye was misunderstood by many because of his ADHD. But those closest to him loved the guy faults and all.

Boo ham's it up for the people and besides why do we work? It's to enjoy the things we like doing the most. I have no problem with him taking time off to go huntin or fishin.

Obviously it's easy to go off of, but judging athletes on fan interaction (autographs, conversation etc) isn't a good way to judge how they actually are.
There are lots of guys who sign and sign but are insufferable assholes. Then there are guys who are as nice as you could ever hope for, who are either very serious in their work environment, or are socially awkward/ anxious.
Next time you're at a sporting event and see a group of people around, look for eye rolling slash catty whispering when someone is interacting with the fans. Odds are, that guy is a douche.

not that this makes him a douchebag all the time but I followed Justin Leonard for a few holes at the Western Open a few years ago and on several consecutive holes he would putt out and head straight to the next tee box and just sit there and wait for the rest of the group to get done putting and come to the tee box...a douchebag move when it comes to golf

Negative, my dad caddied for him during a Pro-Am years ago at the Fed Ex St. Jude(before he won a major). He said Payne was the nicest guy ever, but his bag weighed a ton; possibly b/c whatever Payne was wearing(this was back when he was sponsored by the NFL), he carried a complete spare outfit in the bag and yes that includes shoes(gold wingtips and all)
Hale Irwin is a dick, plain and simple. Kevin Na can be one, I was the standard bearer in his group one year at the FESJC, definitely thinks he's alot better than he is.
Didn't know that about Couples, but I've heard from a friend that works at a course in FL that he's a fan of the wake and bake. Cool as hell to hang around though.

He was a douche to me at Annandale in Jackson. Here I am sitting under a tree all day, running the shot link laser, grid sheet, headphones, and marking balls with flags with no pay. It got pretty chaotic at times. He accused me of stepping on his ball. I had been lectured over and over on how to talk to the golfers. It took everything I had not to tell him to go frick himself.

I'm been in Shreveport - Bossier for 40 years. Home of David Toms and Hal Sutton. Everyone says Toms is a great guy. Sutton is a jackass. I met Sutton briefly last year. I was amazed at how short and fat he is. I'd guess 5-6, 240.

quote:That opinion seems to have faded over time. By all recent accounts, the players and media like him. He certainly is more considerate of the fans than a lot of other players of his status.
Mickelson has earned many nicknames on the Tour, but our favorite is FIGJAM ... "There are a bunch of pros who think he and his whole smiley, happy face are a fraud," another reporter says. "They think he's preening and insincere."
