My son plays football, baseball, and basketball in HS.
He doesn’t do travel ball as I don’t believe in what it does to our weekends and we go to church on Sundays. Also, there isn’t time bc of the other sports. However all his friends do. He’s the starting ss, closer, and bats #2 on his hs team.
He’s about to be driving and I’m going to get him a nice used truck for probably $35k. When the other parents give me crap about it I’m just going to tell them every weekend since he was 7 when they went out of town for a tournament I put $400 each time into an investment account. The truck paid for itself.

Nobody is playing 25 weekends a year, how many times do you have to be told??
Most kids are meeting the recommended time off that you just cited from Andrew’s so again, wtf you talking about. Very rarely are they not.
As far as fatigue, how many times do I have to bring up the ArmCare.com device and app and explain to what it does? Our use a grip guns moneyed and a crane scale to test same thing, bill killer explains how for free on instagram
And pg and 2d require same rest periods Andrew’s recommends for the lost part.
So again how is travel ball ruining everything?
It’s ok to be ignorant about a subject, just don’t try to pass yourself off as some expert.

I don't know what it would take to change the rec ball situation, really.
The 9-10 year old leagues are still ok. A lot of the better kids are still there learning to pitch and getting live action.... but by 10 they start leaving at at 11....
The 11-12 rec leagues (at least ours) is just awful.
Now, there is a league here that runs a "bring your own team" league for the fall. Of course the kids all have to be "league age" but they only take full teams.
We did that this past fall and put together a really stout team. There were 2 other teams built like us and a 4th team that had a bunch of older bigger 12's and one of their pitchers was pretty stout. Games against those teams were pretty competitve and fun.
Maybe that's what it would take. "Bring your own team". And let coaches put together their own teams and compete... as long as the kids were of the right age group.

Travel ball is a chicken or egg type debate.
Did the everybody gets a trophy and we pick the teams Rec ball force people to travelball? Or did travelball take all the decent kids and kill Rec?
That being said aside from 10 teams per age group travelball is Rec quality. I always tell new teams “don’t worry they’ll be plenty of bad teams y’all can beat every weekend”

Bring your own team leagues are the answer and we’ve done those. It’s just the pettiness between teams makes most run from competition.

Here's what started tournament ball -
All Stars. Coming up short in All Stars. You get 2 weeks of practice and then you go play... you lose 2 games and All Stars is over. The level of play in All Stars was pretty good.
THe team we had really wasn't prepared... so what if -
What if we got to practice these kids together more and play a few games before All Stars in order to get them ready. That team in the other parish (county) beats us out every year and we can't even get out of district. Wouldn't it be fun to win district one dayum time and go play in the state tournament?
Now - in most places, all stars is a thing of the past. Except with Little League but those leagues are now few and far between.

This grew over time and and more and more kids (by age 10 and 11) are gone from the local rec leagues and play exclusively tournament ball.
It's hard to get enough 11-12 kids to even make a league out here now. 3 teams. And one of this is gawd-awful bad

A lot more than 10. Even high level AA teams would beat every little league all star team at the state tournament except 3 or maybe 4, much less regular rec league teams.

So let me get this straight. Every weekend you put a kid on a grip machine to determine if his arm is rested enough to pitch?

The ArmCare.com does that for you. I don’t have it, we do hangs for time for grip strength and we do arm care daily. On game we use the radar to ensure we aren’t seeing more than 10% drop on average velo. We hardly ever reach the pitch limits for the pitchers, we limit curves or sliders to 5 and we try to limit pitching 2 days in a row even if within the limits.
I will be buying the ArmCare app before next season so to answer your question…you perform the assessment before the game. It tells you if you are good to pitch, should rest, or at increased risk of injury. Also gives you recommended arm care routine based on where you are weak.

this is the main thing i never understood about travel ball
how does this work if you have a kid situation something like this:
-11 year old boy
-8 year old girl
-2 year old
quote:
Multi kid families are split in two directions every weekend.

And you wonder why UCL injuries are up across the board? You trust a machine instead of just taking the side of caution. But whatever. Good luck. Mentally keep track of all those kids over the next decade and how many have TJ. I bet it’s over 33%.

I mean I’m that case lots of time whole family goes or just one parent with kid goes
We have 2 in travel and oldest only plays rec. sometimes we have to split up as a family. Oldest goes with whoever he wants or sometimes stays home and hangs out

Wtf are you talking about? A) the machine test what the mlb teams have been doing for a long time
B) I guess you missed my whole other post about doing other things and monitoring fatigue
How about we monitor how many cock suckers have an iq under 100 and continue to mouth off about things they are ignorant on? Because you would fit right in.
You just ran your mouth about a machine when you have no clue wtf it does, have no background on why those things matter etc etc.

They are 10. They aren’t in the MLB. It is way too much stress on an arm that is still growing. You will never understand because you can’t see the forest because of the trees. Good luck in Destin.

I have a family that has this set-up
12 yr old son on a AAA 12U team
8 year old son on am 8U coaches pitch team
3 year old little man
The parents have a few options. Some weekends, only 1 kid plays.
Some weekends, both are playing. They usually divide and conquer. One parent goes with 12 and the other parent goes with 8.
Or - the 12 year old has been on the same team for a couple of years and once in a while, he'll stay Friday night with a teammate and they'll take him to Saturday's games.
But yes, its a strain on them. Bigtime. But both of their boys are REALLY good players.... so mom n dad do what they've gotta do.
And YES - they love it.

What is too much stress? How many games does it take to be too much stress? If they only pitch 50 innings across the season is that too much? That’s half the 100 that’s deemed a problem? Is the little league World Series too much? Same amount of games as most tournament teams play.
But explain to me why external and internal rotation strength and mobility vs baseline doesn’t matter, explain why er be ir strength ration doesn’t matter, explain why grip strength doesn’t matter and explain why monitoring fatigue doesn’t matter because they are not in the mlb?
Or you could just admit you are kind of ignorant and on the subject. I mean I don’t know how to build airplanes so I don’t get on here arguing how to do it.

Same situation I’m in except oldest doesn’t play and others do. I can send my 10 year old with teammates. My parents and my wife’s mom go to lots of games, my parents go to ones out of town more, her mom locally.
Helps a ton. We just divide and conquer. Trust me, I would much rather be fishing and playing golf most weekends or hanging around the pool with a margarita but my kids absolutely love it so we sacrifice our time to support them in something they love. I do the same with my oldest in football and throwing in track.
If others think that kind of sacrifice for your kids is crazy…..that’s cool, just don’t get on here and lie about things to justify your decisions and to make yourself feel better about your choices as a parent.

Forest for the trees. Keep convincing yourself that you have done enough research to put a 10 year old arm through strength training and pushing their arm to the max (as long as your grip test tells you it’s ok) won’t have any affect on arms and not lead to arm injury. When the most trusted experts say it’s a bad idea. But the proof is in the pudding. We will see.
