FWIW here's the quote from the BCS rules
quote:
The champion of Conference USA, the Mid-American Conference, the Mountain West Conference, the Sun Belt Conference or the Western Athletic Conference will earn an automatic berth in a BCS bowl game if either:
A. Such team is ranked in the top 12 of the final BCS Standings, or,
B. Such team is ranked in the top 16 of the final BCS Standings and its ranking in the final BCS Standings is higher than that of a champion of a conference that has an annual automatic berth in one of the BCS bowls.
No more than one such team from Conference USA, the Mid-American Conference, the Mountain West Conference, the Sun Belt Conference, and the Western Athletic Conference shall earn an automatic berth in any year. (Note: a second team may be eligible for at-large eligibility as noted below.)

Once again, wrong.

Have you guys been hiding in a cave? It's cut and dry. There are 10 BCS slots (no more than 1 at-large and no more than 2 from each conference is allowed).
(2) Big 12 teams (Okla and Texas)
(2) SEC teams (Ala and FL)
(2) Big 10 teams (PSU and Ohio St)
(1) Pac-10 (USC)
(1) Big East (Cincy)
(1) ACC (BC or Va Tech)
(1) at-large (Utah)
End of discussion. Please kill this thread.
Its not that cut and dry, especially if Boise St. and Utah are both selected. And we've already established that this could quite possibly happen.

The BCS rules seem pretty clear that only 1 mid-major gets an auto birth, but there is nothing stopping the Fiesta or Sugar from inviting Boise St instead of Ohio State.
With that said, all history indicates that the BCS bowls will select Ohio State over Boise State. There is more money, more fans, and more interest in Ohio State by a long shot.

This is very very true.
HEnce why Hawaii fell to the Sugar(last team selected)

I would completely agree with that if it weren't specifically Boise St. the networks would love to have another game like BSU/Oklahoma a few years back. You know you'd see clips of that game every other commercial on FOX for a week leading up to the actual game.

My apologies. You are correct about the at-large possibilities. But let's be honest...no BCS bowl committee in their right mind will select Boise St over Ohio St. That's financial suicide. Buckeye fans would travel to Abu Dhabi if they had to...and sell out the stadium.

Still you are talking the premiere(by far) football program from one of the most populous states in the U.S. and a traditional power with a NC in this decade.

Depends...is the selection committee worried about selling out the stadium? or in TV ratings. I have to figure that people are getting tired of watching Ohio State continuously laying eggs in BCS bowl games.

They won the Fiesta in 05.

You might be shocked to know how attached these cities are to the bowls. How many people travel to the game and spend money in the city and stay in the hotels and eat in the restaurants is VERY important.

4-2 record in BCS games...yeah, that really sucks.

Actually played in January '06 FWIW. Also won the Fiesta in '03 vs Miami and '04 vs Kansas St, as well as the Sugar in '99 vs A&M.

The SEC Champ loser I think will get screwed in favor of a 2nd Big 10 school, which is bunk.
No way.

The answer is easily Texas because they are the only ones who have had their conf. title hopes dashed by the BCS. Every other team gets a fair shake in their conference at least.

Nobody has mentioned Utah. They went undefeated in the best mid-major conference ever. A conference that was 6-1 against the pac10. They scheduled Oregon State and Michigan OOC. They beat 3 ranked football teams.
And I haven't heard one person mention them for the NC all season. I don't think they should go over Texas or OU or the SEC Champ, but there should be mention of it.
