Where would Zion Williamson get drafted in the NFL?

I’m talking about this spring after only playing basketball. If he decided he only wanted to play football and could declare after his true freshman year of school. How early would a team take a chance on him? I could honestly see him going Round 1. Defensive End, Left Tackle or Tight End. He would be the best physical prospect at all 3 positions. Plenty of time to learn at his age.

Can you the imagine the amount of "he played basketball in college" comments?

I couldn't see not at least taking him in the second round even having no clue about whether he can play football. Maybe not the first?

6'7, 275-285 with that level of explosiveness and hands at 19 doesn't come around much.

He wouldn't be drafted. The NFL doesn't allow for players to enter the league until 3 years have passed from their high school graduation.

If he was hypothetically allowed to flout the league's rules, he'd be a 7th round pick (based purely on his size and athleticism). You can have all the measurables you want, but he didn't play high school or college football.

Yeah, but 6'7, 285 without serious weight training and a 40 inch vert aren't just some measurables. Those are hall of fame measurables.

Clowney went first overall despite the disappointing junior year and Williamson's physical profile is better than Clowney.

If you think you can teach Zion even a working knowledge of football, he's a pro bowler.

The hypothetical addressed the fact that he wouldn’t be eligible. No way he would go undrafted. It’s not like he is 24 years old. He has plenty of time to learn the fundamentals. Athletically, he may be the perfect prospect.

This is “Could Lebron play in the NFL?” all over again.

I’d use a mid-late round pick on him. Not wasting early round picks on an unknown.

You should check out some of the athletic mystical creatures that go into the NFL every single year.

Rico Gathers had never played football and got drafted in the 6th round by the Cowboys.
Zion is on another level athletically than Rico.

Vertical is the simplest comparison. He did over 40 at Duke and supposedly hit 45 in HS. That would tie for the third highest in combine history at 285 pounds.

I don't think it's an overstatement to say he has good athleticism for a DB, and he's also 6'7, 285 at 19 years old.

Jump balls would become outlawed if someone that big and athletic could catch a football at its highest point consistently.

1. He's not 285
2. He's not eligible
3. He would be a 5th or 6th round pick

He also won’t enter the draft ever. But this is a hypothetical where he would be eligible right now.

Teams draft players that are terrible at football all the time. Big athletic basketball players are making the transition more and more every year at tight end. Colts have that guy from George Mason. As mentioned already, Rico Gathers.

If a guy that big and athletic can catch a football, he has a shot at making the jump over other types.
