he’s in the same discussion as Saban, Walsh, Bryant, Lombardi, Johnson, Hayes, etc.

I would disagree. Saban has won the same # of championships in a much more competitive era and in half the time. Better win percentage as well.

Disagree. Both have their different set of challenges.

Saban was given a few mulligans that Bryant wouldn't had. 11 and 17 would have never happened under the old system. Saban has not dominated the SEC like Bryant did that 20 year stretch.

Bryant went 103-16-1 from 1970-79.
In this decade, Saban is currently sitting at 119-13.

The irony of a sec board taking about cheating.

You mean like most every coach. Packers got Favre for a song. Arod was a late first. Brady?
I guess no credit is given for making Russ a third when every other team missed. And no credit for starting a really short qb.

Well under the old system Alabama would have been the champion in 2014, 2016, and 2018.

Well again, things are drastically more competitive these days. I’m also not sure that’s true.

Bryant was the beneficiary of a pair of mulligans himself: one in 1964 and the other in 1973. In both seasons his teams were voted the national champions of college football before losing their bowl game.
You can't get away with that today.

The schematics still the nfl is WAY WAY tougher.
It’s like comparing high school to college.

I like this play call from Pete Carroll the best

English? Link?

Great coach, but not quite all-time elite. Two AP national titles and one SB title. I would rank him above Barry Switzer, but below Jimmy Johnson. Not on the level of Belichick or Saban or Bill Walsh.

Garbage cheater
Has 0 NCs at U$C
Has one Super Bowl
Not on the list of memorable coaches

Schematics is English.
The level of complexity of schemes and playbook don’t even compare.

Well obviously. Has nothing to do with the discussion.
Interesting side note: many of Bama’s defensive players have stated that the level of complexity of Alabama’s defensive schemes wasn’t all that different than the NFL.

Do what?
It's been like 10 years and not a single person on here has read the NCAA report.
As Ivan Maisel or another rival coach in the Pac 10 said at the time, USC got busted for the crime of USC-ness. Being popular and having celebrities on the sidelines. That was their big crime. Nothing connected USC to the Reggie Bush agent scandal.
In fact, it was against USC's interests to invite such poachers.
They stole their star player.
USC was punished because it was loosey-goosey fun and Carroll was the catalyst and the NCAA thought being a fun program and having celebrities at practices was a violation even though it wasn't against the rules.
Never thought he'd be a good NFL coach because it was all rah-rah in College and NFL players are immune to that.
But he made it work.
He's said that his transformation into becoming a great coach was reading the Inner Game of Tennis.
