New Commisky opened the year before and it was obsolete the day Camden Yards opened.
If Reinsdorf didn’t have a hard on for a Kauffman Stadium clone, he could’ve beaten Baltimore with the Armour Square proposal.

I’ve been to all 30 current MLB parks.
Pittsburgh and SF are certainly my top 2
I haven't been to all 30 but I've been to 12, and of the trendy parks built at the turn of the century, I'm with you - these are my favorite 2 favorite and in that order. Wrigley is and always will be my favorite. So much of baseball is nostalgia and history - and I've been to Wrigley, Fenway and Old Yankee Stadium and Wrigley brings it better for me, of course I'm biased.
Others I've been to include the current Mets, Phillies, Astros, Rockies, Padres, D-Backs and Nats parks...of this group I'd rank them Rockies, Nats, Padres, Astros, Phillies, Mets, D-backs.

Live in DC...my rankings on where I have been
Nostalgia (hard to put in with others)
Wrigley - still my favorite but losing charm every year with the development by the Ricketts..neighborhood is not as fun
Old Yankee Stadium - the history was just terrific, the bleacher creatures were crazy (and I hate the Yankees) but fun, etc
Fenway - probably my f@t tall arse, but never comfortable seat there...but I do enjoy myself when there
My personal favorites
Petco
American Family Field (Milwaukee) - Bernie the Brewer...Harleys...tailgates, etc
Oriole Park - my first love
Cut Above
Oracle Park - love the stadium...but the area around it..not a fan
Comerica
Meh but still fun
Minute Maid (loved the train though...yeah Kitschy..but fun)
Coors - do love the views from up top
loandepot (Marlins) - stadium itself is not special and i know people crap on it..but does have some very specific Miami foods and vibes
Citi - I hate the Mets, but still good views and easy access
T-Mobile - loved the sushi, and good beers..but stadium itself was ok
Nationals Park - some good DC things, lots of clear views, but not in top tier
Rate - gets lot of crap, but terrible team...but some fun sections, fun food, etc
Not a fan
New Yankee Stadium
Globe Life Park in Arlington
Chase Field - just seemed soulless
Worst
Vet - old Phillies stadium...

I do think going to a major league game is the total experience pre and post as well as the game itself, and the surrounding neighborhood (if there is one - there are some where there is not much of one) - this can greatly enhance the experience - in the case of Wrigleyville this combined with the history of the park itself makes it hard to beat IMHO.
But I agree, the Ricketts have made some changes I do not like, one or two I do. They did replace that ghastly old parking lot with Gallagher Way, which is much more aesthetically pleasing. Most of the old bars on clark and Addison that I always liked are still there.
The sports book and apartment/condo's and some of the shiney new stuff, I'm with you not as big a fan of. I actually like the Zachary, stayed there during the Covid times when prices were affordable, but since are out of my price range.

I think it's so unique and beautiful. I grew up with Fenway, but if it wasn't for the history, Camden would be above it. It's one of my favorite stadiums in sports.

As I indicated not a big fan of the new condo's/apts on Clark, some of the trendy type chain popups where there used to be old traditional ball park bars and restaurants, the new scoreboards blocking some of the rooftops - felt like maybe they could have been better placed...maybe not, and not a fan of the sports book.

I remeber that whole fiasco and in the end, the rooftops basically had no leverage.

Yeah, rooftop owners were screwed. I understand that they were making money off of the games, but it’s one of baseball’s great traditions. More should have been done to find a common ground between rooftop owners and the Cubs owners.

I liked Camden. Saw Clark & Palmeiro play against each other there, the season after they swapped teams. Fenway is probably my favorite, because of the nostalgia. When I played little league, I learned all I could about Ted Williams and hitting.

Where does Camden Yards rank among best pro sports stadiums
Slightly below Wrigley and the old Yankee stadium IMO, but a great ballpark.
