Where did Michael Jordan rank as a player from his rookie year to his final retirement in 2003? (excluding 1986 since MJ was out basically the entire regular season and 1995 since he only played the final 17 regular season games, feel free to rank him those seasons if you want)

This makes me feel old. Children becoming adults soon who never saw Jordan play.

Would've dragged the Wizards to the playoffs that year if not for the right knee injury.

Prior to the All-Star break, Jordan and Kobe were the only 2 players that year to average 25+ pts, 5+ rebounds, and 5+ assists per game.

In the last 16 games the Wizards played in which both Jordan and Rip Hamilton played together, the Wizards were 15-1.

Jordan was a top 10 player in that season when he played.

Behind Bird in 84-85 and Magic in 86-87.

#1 from 87-88 to 92-93.

Behind Hakeem in 94-95. #1 again from 95-96 to 97-98.

Between 15-25 in his first Wiz year. Outside Top 25 his second year.

I put Magic ahead of him in part because I consider that Laker team a top three all time team, and Magic was the leader.

86-87 was Magic's best year. 24-12-6 on 52% shooting and a 27 PER.

I'm going to edit my previous because looking back, Magic took a small step back in the 87-88 regular season.

He played 18 games that year. I don't think the OP even invlided it in his list because he was injured the entire season.

besides that season the dude was an absolute workhorse. played in 82 games 9 times in his career (one was a much more limited role with the Wizards but still he was 39)

Also there's Dream Team doc conversations where Magic still thought he was the best player on the Planet.

Bird was the best player from 1981-1986.

Then Magic was the best player for at least two years and his great Repeat teams of '87 and '88.

And you could argue Magic was the best player in the league until 1990 because he WON THE MVP 4 years in a row until 1991.

MVP by year:

1984 - Bird
1985 - Bird
1986 - Bird
1987 - Magic
1988 - Magic
1989 - Magic
1990 - Magic

1991 - Jordan

I love Magic, but MJ ripped off 4 straight seasons of a PER above 31 while leading the league in scoring beginning in 87-88. I don't know how that doesn't take the crown.

Magic was still the best distributor, but that 4 year run is where MJ went to the next level.

I think Magic and/or Kareem might have beaten out Bird prior to 86 in some seasons, but that's neither here nor there.
