When Roddick retired there was no heir. Isner Blake Querry Fish and a few others have made a splash or two but no body beyond a Semis.

Andy was nowhere near the GOAT but if that guy had been about 3-4 years older he would have come up before the time of Fed, Rafa, and Djok and probably have had 2-3 more Major titles.

What do you mean? Isner lost his usual 5 setter.

I’m addition, one thing that probably doesn’t help grow American tennis is our inability to watch them play.

When Tiafoe made his run at the Australian, he wasn’t being shown on TV, which hurts the growth of youth players.

Trying to catch up to the Europeans. Quick start for their juniors started way before its caught on here. Big serve big forehand like we taught here forever can’t compete with all court players.

Meh.

His greatest success was in Oz. He still would be facing Sampras. And Yk. And BB.

Thinking an 18 year old beats those guys is a bit bullish.

I think golf has absorbed a lot of country club kids who might have broken through in tennis the last 20 years. And that doesn't even account for the big sports taking away the best athletes.
