I don't know how this hasn't been mentioned, but what about the red sox? I don't know the parameters of v-mart's contract, but Varitek needs to be replaced immediately imo..
As for the Yankees, Montero will be a beast and I hope he will set an example of farm system production in the future.

They won't go after Mauer. Cervelli and Montero have shown enough to where it is one of those guys position to lose.

I was listening to some baseball dude on the radio yesterday, and he said that Mauer needs to think about moving very soon. Said he's already caught more games than anyone over 6'4" in MLB history and it's taking a toll on is body. Besides that, though, his bat needs to be in the lineup 155+ games a year. Too valuable to take days off, which he'll have to as a catcher obviously, and even more the older he gets.
not in the al when he is dhing on his off days

probable HOFer.
He has played 5 full MLB seasons. No.

Unless he loses a leg, dude has HOF written all over him.

Mauer's well on his way to HOF.
Five seasons, three batting titles (including the first, second, and third ever won by a catcher in the AL), highest single-season average ever by a catcher.
Yes, he'll probably get moved to 3B, 1B, or RF at some point.
Yes, he'd probably take less money to stay home. Right now he has 20-50 friends and family at every game, he lives on a hobby farm 30 miles north of Minneapolis, and he likes to hang out at a sandwich shop across the street from his old high school.
Think back, Kent Hrbek and Kirby Puckett are among a number of players who have taken less to stay with the Twins, and Mauer fits the mold.

Different era.

Same dynamic. He's the biggest man in a small city. Lives on a fraction of what he's paid (seriously, he gets an allowance from his mom!) Wants nothing more than to hang out with his friends. Fan of all his local childhood teams. Has more money in the bank than he could burn with a flamethrower in one afternoon.
Why would he leave? Only one reason: to play for a winner. But the Twins have been winning.

I'm pretty sure the Twins will pay to keep Mauer, and yes, he is on his way to the HOF.

I think Minnesotans assume Mauer will go, but if a person were to stay for less money than the market would bear, he'd a a good candidate. The Twin's will never pay market value. They like to win with young talent they scout, then let them go when the big payday arrives. Santana, Tori Hunter, Ortiz.
Their GM who was so good at scouting this talent resigned in 07, so it will be interesting to watch if this trend continues.

I'm liking Cervelli more right now, especially with his skill behind the plate. It'll be a few years before we see Montero with the big club so he has a little bit to develop but either way to have 2 legit Cs in the farm is a GREAT thing.

I don't think he leaves Minnesota.

How long is the contract for Molina? I think he will be the next Rick Cerone.

in his last year.

I wish he would leave. I'm a White Sox fan- lonely occupation in this area. (as is being an SEC fan). Toward the end of his career Kirby even flirted with big markets, but he stayed. Of course, he had 2 rings.

I've thought for the last couple of seasons that this dude NEEDS to stop playing catcher.
He is way too good of a hitter and catching will take a toll on him.
