That's what tee times are for. Don't allow people to squeeze in between groups. Keep a strict schedule.

So if they fill the course up everyday, why not raise the price a little until they find the perfect medium?

I think a lot of the pace of play problems come from people just not being aware of their pace or flat out being dunces. I'm not a good golfer so I have no problem letting a quicker group play through. I don't mind picking my ball up if I'm holding my group up (jokes incoming).
At the same time, if my group is steamrolling a course and there are guys ahead of us chasing balls left and right and looking for balls for way too long, someone needs to have the wherewithal to wave is through.

like i said, in the summer, webb stays pretty full
i think they should have winter rates like i said earlier....but i dont think they do that
i also think courses should have more rates....like a twilight and supertwilight
in the summer, no one is playing from 12-3 because its hot and the rate is the same as it is in the morning

I can get behind that.
ETA: Can you "join" a BREC course like Webb?

During the summer on weekdays from noon-3, they should really discount their rates. But I guess you could say the do that through Golf Now deals, right?

The industry itself has been going downhill, starting about 7 or 8 years ago. There are several reasons to why it's happening, but I think the biggest is that too many courses exist. With a combination of folks dying off, people unemployed, and a decrease in standard of living has really hurt the industry. No disposable income = no recreation

The royal and ancient Querbes in Shreveport has been packed every single Saturday and Sunday through the winter. Gotta bunch of hackers out there. And it's like $36 to play which is ridiculous. But people pay. They are building a nice new clubhouse.
While Shreveport doesn't have an overwhelming amount if great public courses, the private ones are very nice. I'd say golf in this area s solid, with the exception of Olde Oaks. Place is going really downhill. Which is sad b/c it's 27 holes.
I can go play Shreveport Country Club for $27 bucks on the weekend. Or walk querbes for like $20.

Brec courses have a twilight and super twilight rate.

you can buy a card from brec that gives you access to all of their courses
550 a year for access to the teir 2 courses.....its quite a bit more for access to all 7 (including BC and SM)

Most pace of play problems come when a course is crowded or overcrowded which means the course is actually doing business.
If I were a GM, Id have morning tee times that were spaced out farther apart (with a starter enforcing), but they cost about 10 bucks or so more. And you'd need a foursome to play, or you'd get paired up.

you sure about that?
even if so, i doubt either starts at noon

Yeah it starts around 2 or 3 and 5 during the summer

i'll reiterate this statictic:
Per the PGA, 13.5 courses opened in 2012, and 154.5 closed.
Golf is an expensive game to play.

i see this complaint in every golf thread....but i play many of the courses around BR, and i play twice a week on average....and I almost NEVER play a round that takes more than 4 hours this includes playing in a 5-some pretty often too and behind other 5somes on weekends
I agree. I see this complaint a good bit on golf threads. But, the worst i encounter is 4.5 hours. I would prefer to play in around 4 hours, but i'm ok with 4 1/2. What difference does 30 mts make? I play once or twice a week on average. Usually when i play, i don't have a defined window to get it in. I don't mind it taking a little longer so I can enjoy the time out there on the course with my buds. I can see if it gets longer than 4.5 that it would suck. But I also always play in a 4-some or 5-some. Can't remember the last i played by myself or in a two-some. I can't imagine that would be a lot of fun.

I think twilight starts at 1 right now.

How does a half course open or close?

I go hit MSU a lot by myself, but that's because I never know when I'll get a chance to make it out there. If I get done with work early, I scoot out there and play by myself. Though, I'll usually jump on with a group or another single.
I really enjoy it.
If you don't have time to play a 4-4.5 hour round, I wouldn't be planning to play golf that day. Or I would plan to only play 9 holes.
Golf courses need to focus on attracting players on their slow days/winter.
