Race 1 had $100k in the win pool for a maiden race. Those are Oaklawn numbers.

It’s Evangeline Downs. What do you think is happening?

Gerard Melancon would signal our group when he was on a winner. Later on in his career he’d just tell us what to expect.

I do feel bad for the people who claimed duds & imposter horses back in the day. Dirty tricks and horses kinda go hand in hand.

GM was one of, or the most crooked jockeys history. Everyone knew he fixed races, purposely quit riding for another horse to get in the exacta, and very often had a buzzer on him . Sadly, the gaming commission, local, and state police were in on the take, and he never seemed to get pinched. After the retired, he went on social media and had an opinion about crooked riders and trainers. F that POS. He can rot in hell.

Years ago (I'm not sure if it's still true) Evangeline Downs was the only track in America which the Simulcast betting sites would not put on their board.

One of the main trainers GM rode for, Bobby Granger, was also crooked. BM ended up working for racing commission.

I said that because my friend used to be the state steward at EVG, and he was approached by some dudes who were, let's say, "connected" at a gas station one night after the races. Was told to back off. Shortly after, he got another steward job out of Louisiana. This happened about 10 years ago. True story. Place is crooked .
