Bama has lost their most significant regular season game more often than not during this current run. In fact, I think their only undefeated regular season was 2009.
2008

Do all the other teams go undefeated every year? Am I missing something?

Nope. They also don't get an automatic bid to the playoff every year.

Obviously.

I don't get the argument that conference championships don't matter. If it's the "eye test", why even keep score during the regular-season games? The only argument I have against it being only conference champions is that would make the non-conference games not matter as much. So I wouldn't mind an at-large team or two. I'd prefer those are chosen with some type of RPI-like calculation rather than a committee, though. That way teams will know what they have to do before the season starts, other than trying to impress ESPN.

In saying that, I do honestly think Alabama was the best team last season and I really hate that they never lose and I am usually happy when they lose (except when they lose to Ole Miss because screw Ole Miss). I also think under my system, with at-large bids, they would eventually win the national championship anyway. I'm just under the belief that less opinion should be needed about the teams after a system is put in place to choose the teams.

No, but some teams have to in order to even be considered for anything, which is also the point of the thread.

I was responding to the comment that "Bama is always prepared for the Big Games".

If they were, they wouldn't lose their most important regular season game so often. But then again, when you KNOW you can lose and it is all going to be ok due to it being a "quality loss" for the "eye test", then you don't need to win the division or conference. You can completely change your focus during the year. Not every program in CFB has that luxury.

Correct for them, Auburn and Wisconsin it was essentially a playoff game. Teams should not benefit by not playing in it.

This has been an issue for quite some time. Bama was punished in 2008 for playing an extra game and in 1992 were close to losing a nattie bid in the SECCG. A conference having a championship game is irreverently risky but with potential rewards

In 94 Alabama was 11-0 and lost to Florida by 1 or they would have played Nebraska for at least a shot at NC. Also KSU lost to A&M in 98 Big XII CCG knocking them out of BCSCG and of course 2001 Tennessee losing to LSU and Saban. 2001 LSU is my favorite example of the stupidity of CCG

They should play for 3 1/2 hours, 12 times a year and then, like figure skaters, sit in a little box and wait for the judges to score them.

How is that much different than now?

Who cares. My opinion doesn't decide the national champion, and neither should a committee's.

The best were in the playoff, according to Hocutt’s interpretation that are not even consistent week to week. But, that does not men they were the most deserving.

I prefer a more objective to subjective system. Yeah it would suck in that case if it happened but that’s the exception not the rule and again it would not have happened anyway since PSU would be the 4th team in part because they beat tOSU
