See, I used to think that, remembering a hockey game I went to years and years ago.
I went to another one a few months ago and it was...fine, but I didn't really enjoy it. So many stoppages, atmosphere felt a bit strange/sterile.
Obviously a lot of stoppages in football/basketball too, I just enjoy the atmisphere at these games better. It felt like, at the NHL game I was at, that hockey was a niche sport and I wasn't a part of that niche.
So, I think it really goes by personal preference and no sport is "by far" the best to watch live.

I understand. It's not for everybody. I grew up with college football and college basketball, so I'll always feel like I'm a part of the crowd at those events rather than just a spectator. Assuming you were raised an LSU Tigers fan, the atmosphere at any NHL game won't be comparable to your experience at Tiger Stadium on a Saturday night.

My only issue with hockey is it’s probably the only sport I’ve never actually played, well on ice at least, so it’s harder to identify with

Women’s sports except for traditional Olympic sports(minus hoops) and of course beach volleyball.
Football is something I can care less about now. It bores me. But it’s on all the time everywhere.
