Define better? Every single sport the players are better the quality of play is better. some rule or strategy changes (baseball shift of swinging for nothing but HR for example) may not be as enjoyable but overall it’s better. It’s pure nostalgia for your own youth.

Better product. The NBA players don't play as hard today 0r as often as they used to. NFL was better but I don't know why. The political stuff and black national anthem dont help. MLB was better when every body was on steroids. Boxing was incredible back then. Or maybe I'm just old and it seem,s that way

This is actually a great one to argue. Personally I'd put Tiger Woods, Pele, & Messi on the same tier and maybe Muhammed Ali

I'd still say Jordan, and that's not even taking into consideration his impact on pop culture with Nike/Air Jordan brand.

This is a big part of it. Particularly when you mention NBA players and “work load” ( you can blame that on ring culture) and the political stuff.

Boxing has basically disappeared so by default it was better back in the day

I would suggest pure nostalgia. I watched some old games they showed during the pandemic like Super Bowl XIII, and was surprised how sloppy it was, basic run run pass kick play calling. Was great to see some old players some I’d forgotten about but the quality of play was stark compared to now

Maybe not those two, but 3-20 is much weaker nowadays compared to 10-15 years ago.

NBA is polarizing.... Quality of play is likely better now, but the 90s featured inarguably the most iconic athlete in the history of sport.

Also had Barkley and Shaq.

MLB was clearly better in the 1990s.

NHL, I would say now.

College football had a number of issues in the 1990s like top teams being locked into different bowls and the natty being determined solely by the opinions of assclown sportswriters, so I wouldn't say it was better. Just a different set of problems.

NBA looks better now but it could be from having a local team.
