In this blog entry I will break down teams and how I feel they would do against Miami Heat in a 7 game series.

To me the biggest weaknesses of the Miami Heat are going to be defending athletic PGs, protecting the rim and rebounding.

So first up, here are the two NBA Finals teams and how they break down against the Heat roster as of July 15, 2010. Keep in mind all of this is subject to change as FA continues and rosters get filled

The Lakers
Fisher > Chalmers - for now but this could change rapidly

Wade = Kobe

James >>> Artest - but Ron Ron does give LBJ some halfcourt problems

Gasol >>> Bosh - Gasol lines vs Toronto over 2008-2010
22ppg, 10rpg, 3-1 W/L

Bynum >>> Big Z - Bynum bad knee laughs at Big Z's lack of mobility

Bench
Walton << Miller - if he stays healthy

Blake > unknown FA PG

Odom >>> Haslem

Bynum/Gasol >>> Anthony - one of them always plays with odom
which is part of what LA so tough

Brown > unknown FA SG or rookie

coaching
Phil >>>>>>>>>>> Spoelstra - for his 11 rings

As of now, I say the Lakers would beat the Heat in 7 games but it would be an absolute war. The Lakers just have too much size for Miami but they would have a hard time slowing down Miami. This is the kind of series where playing undersized (Bosh/Haslem/Anthony) or playing slow (Big Z) big men will kill the benefits of the LBJ/Wade pairing

Celtics
Rondo >>> Chalmers - in a huge way but not enough to matter

Allen <<< Wade

Pierce << James - Pierce cant guard LBJ, LBJ struggles with guarding Pierce

KG << Bosh - KG's knee is a liability here

Perkins > Big Z - even after knee surgery Perkins outplays Big Z

Bench
Big Baby = Haslem they are essentially the same player

Jermaine O'Neal = Anthony - neither of them are any good

unknown SF FA <<< Miller

Avery Bradley > Miami rookie/vet with minimum deal

Coaching
Doc >>> Spoelstra - big questions around Boston without Thibodau but Rivers is still a much more seasoned and skilled than a guy learning on the job

IMHO 2008 Celtics could beat 2010 Miami but 2010/2011 Celtics can't stop Wade and the small ball lineup of Wade/Chalmers/Miller/LBJ/Bosh would devastate an old Boston Front line with Miami winning the series in 5 games

I will keep adding teams as we go along and Free agency starts to clear up the roster situations

I agree it will be a war. I see the season for the younger Heat players being even more of a war then for the veterans that the Lakers have. With the Heats small bench Lebron, Bosh, and Wade will be racking up minutes like crazy and even though they are in the primes of their careers 82 games plus playoffs will take its toll on anybody. As of today I still take the Lakers.

He's the X-factor in all of this.
I wonder if he can mimic Doc Rivers/Phil Jackson and manage all those egos.

just about every team will be better @ the two most important positions, IMO (the 1 and 5 spots)

it will be interesting to see who the heat get at center and to fill-out the bench

If he can't there's a guy right above him who will be all too happy to take over and has more than enough credentials to guide them to the promise land.

lets skip over the 6/24 Kobe had in Game 7 and look forward to NEXT season since that is what this thread is about

Going in to the 2010/2011 season
Wade will be 29
Kobe will be 32

Wade has played 471 games
Kobe has played in 1021 games

Wade has played 66 playoff games
Kobe has played 198 playoff games

Career avgs per 36min
Wade 24.3 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 6.4 astpg, 1.8 stg
Kobe 25.3ppg, 5.3rpg, 4.7 astpg, 1.5 stg

So yeah I think they are equal and we might even say Wade > Kobe for the 2010/2011 season

no real argument there except Chalmers has zero playoff chips and Fisher has a ton

NEXT SEASON? Seriously?

quote:

James >>> Artest

yeah, no doubt

quote:

Gasol = Bosh

Gasol is going to own Bosh. what good is Bosh's athletic ability advantage over Gasol when he is sitting on the bench in foul trouble?

quote:

Bynum >>>>> Big Z

yeah no doubt.

Something tells me the Big Z experiment will be short lived in Miami

Neither team matches well w/ the other. IMO LA would win b/c overall height and depth, they are perhaps the biggest and longest team in the league. I see them dominating the boards and the paint then add in Kobe and Derek it's just to much at each position IMO.

You shouldn't have Kyle. I think the difference right now is negligible at best. You wanna talk careers? No question Kobe is on a different planet. You wanna talk as a game-day baller in 2011? They are a push at best.

This.

I think it's silly to think it's not even a question.

I have to put a +1 here. While the Mavs would get destroyed starter vs. starter, the bench would get teams:

Beaubois<<Chalmers:I think people will be surprised by Beaubois, but I still give the nod to Chalmers

Kidd<<<<<Wade: Talent-wise, it's not even close, but the Mavs don't expect Kidd to do what Wade does.

Butler<<<<<James: James outmatches Butler in every regard big time

Dirk<<Bosh: Give Bosh the edge because Dirk plays no D whatsoever, and I can see Bosh giving him fits

Haywood>>>Big Z: Big Z barely has anything left in the tank, while Haywood still has room to grow

Bench:

Terry>Miller: Terry is a little better shooter than Miller

Barea>>>FA point guard: Barea has come around a lot recently, while the Heat are looking at the likes of Jason Williams or Keyon Dooling

Marion>>>Haslem: Marion is more complete, while Haslem is a nitty gritty type

Chandler>>>>FA Center: If he can stay healthy (which is a huge if), Chandler can become great on this Mavs team, while the Heat are looking at Juwan Howard or Brad Miller here

The Mavs almost have a decent starting 5 coming off the bench. I think the bench would have to make up a lot of points though as the starting 5 may get down quite a bit
