I'd have to think the BCS championship game of AU vs FSU had to be pretty hard to swallow for AU fans

I remember watching that game and AU was about to run them out of the stadium until the fake punt by FSU

That flight back from LA was the worst 4 hours of my life.

I typically do not get excited about a win until it is 00:00. But when Tre Mason scored late, I turned to my wife in the stands and said "We just won our second National Championship in 4 years". Never. EVER thought we would lose that game after that score. Then it happened

2013 NBA Finals game 6

I dont think I have ever been more mad after a game.

But sports are humbling reminders that it is just a game, and to focus on things that are really important

1980 Raiders winning at Cleveland and going onto to becoming the first Wild Card Super bowl Champ..

Then Elway once again breaking their hearts again with The Drive..

And not soon after, Jordon's jumper..

Then, Atl Braves lone World Series win vs Indians in 1995..

Snake bit city.

For a franchise- 2011 Rangers Game 6. One strike away TWICE from their first World Series

My own person heartbreak- 2012 Saints-49ers playoff game. Saints greatest team ever. We win that game we most likely roll past a Giants team in the Dome we had blown out earlier in the year. It is THE game that will live in infamy. Still not over it.

Butler's 2010 title game against Duke has to be up there.
If I could change one moment in sports history I think I’d choose the shot from Hayward going in. They deserved to win a title during that incredible two year stretch and that shot looked like it was destined to kill coach K.

As an Ole Miss fan, it was when Eli fell down, and 4th and 25 against Arky a few years ago.

Weird thing about sports is you always find how to cope with the loss. The MIN loss was beyond comprehension, but fast forward 6 months and you're thinking even if Marcus Williams hits him right Diggs gets out of bounds in time for a FG. But the worst -

The Seattle/NE Super Bowl though. In the situation, with Lynch in the backfield, you throw it? That's pure pain.

Saints had SF beat. Didn’t win though. Better team lost. Saints would’ve won the SB that year. SF wouldnt have.

Personally though nothing tops 1998 Big 12 Championship game.

Some others not mentioned yet

2014 World Series--would have hurt a lot less if Gordon had just popped out instead of hitting that two out triple. He probably would have been out at home had he tried for the inside the park job but you never know what kind of throw would have been made (correct me if I'm wrong 2015 Mets fans).

1987 Oilers vs either Kings or Flames my memory fails me here. Steve Smith puts the series deciding goal in his own net late in the third period of game seven.

1982 Cal-Stanford Elway sees his only chance of playing in a bowl game get stumped by the band.

1983 NCAA final N.C. State vs Houston air ball turns into alley oop for game winning dunk at the buzzer.

1972 Gold medal basketball game, still the gold standard for referee screwjobs.

The year the Oilers led the Bills 35-0 only to lose something like 41-38 in the playoffs

1999 Stanley Cup finals-Brett Hull in the crease for the series winning goal

When you think about it long enough there seems to be a shitload of these involving teams from Buffalo, Cleveland, Houston, and Kansas City

I can't believe I forgot the Chiefs-Colts playoff games. Both the 1995 9-6 loss where Len Elliott missed three chip shot field goals and the last time they played where the Chiefs blew a huge lead with the deciding touchdown scored on a quarterback sneak by Luck after he fumbled the snap only to have the ball bounce right back into his hands without him even having to break his stride.

FSU losing to UF in the last minute in 1997. One of the best teams we ever had and Mickey Andrews decided to play bump and run on Jacquez Green with a minute left

1987 Midwest Regional final in Cincinnati vs Indiana. LSU had a 63-51 lead and then 75-66 with under 5:00 left. Had LSU won the Final Four at the Superdome would have been unbelievable. IU pulled out a 77-76 win.

Had Buckner made that out, the game would have gone on to another inning.Red Sox would not have won the Series.
