I grew up a Cubs fan thanks to WGN and Harry Caray. Harder to get into the Braves b/c their announcers were boring. Now I like the Astros b/c I can drive to see them every year.

To me, it doesn't really matter who someones favorite team is. It's part of sports.

What would sports be like if everyone rooted for their hometown/state team?

Why does it matter why anyone is a fan of any team? What a useless thread this is.

It's thread like this that make me glad that I grew-up in Michigan where the Tigers, Lions, Pistons, and Red wings made my life easier.

I would think that the Astros and Braves and Rangers would be logical choices for Louisianans. If you're a Texas wannabee in Shreveport it would make sense that you're a rangers fans.

Now Houston is closer for South Louisiana where most of the people in the state live so it would make sense that most Louisianans are Astros fans. The Braves were on cable tv and are a Southern team which is important to some Louisianans.

Are astros games still on the radio in Baton Rouge?

The Cardinals are more of a regional team than a city team anyway. For decades before expansion in 1962 with Houston and the Braves moving from Milwaukee in 1966, the "South" as a whole didn't really have a team. Just like people who became Braves or Cubs fans mainly through TBS and WGN, the majority of old Cardinals fans, like my grandfather and my dad became that way via KMOX. They were by no means diehard fans like you have today, but they still followed them.

With me it's a generational thing and I'm passing it down to my boys.

I grew up being a cubs fan my whole life. Growing up you had two choices for baseball cubs(wgn) or braves (tbs). The. Braves play by play was horrible so I stuck with hArry carrey and the cubs.
