I just think it's funny the old farts think that just because they are old their opinions are somehow more valid.

What do they have to say about the young teens and 20 somethings when MJ was in his prime? Dis they also not know enough? Or is it different because it was the now old farts here?

No one ever argued that MJ wasn't the best ever. This was after Magic, Bird, Dr J, Wilt, etc had all done their thing. The old timers that saw those guys play still agreed MJ was on a different level.

I think the fact of having a broader more complete perspective makes the opinions potentially more informed.

If you didn't really experience MJ in his prime it is tough to compare him to something you see now. Add in the current fascination with exclaiming everything to be EPIC and calling everything the greatest and it causes some to reasonably discount the opinion of a 23 year old telling everyone who the greatest of all time is.

Right just watching Youtube clips with no perspective of how good some teams were back then it's hard to understand that MJ was doing this to other HoF players and super teams like Boston, LA, and Detroit.

I'm 28, I remember watching MJ, and can say that Lebron has a chance to be better. Is he the GOAT now, of course not. It's why these threads are so stupid. The discussion should start after LBJ is done.

Spurs and Thunder these last two years weren't stacked with talent and HOFers?

He beat Detroit, Cleveland, Phoenix, NY, Indiana, Seattle, Utah, etc., etc., etc. in their primes.

Of course, it is difficult to call it the teams' prime since they are losing by definition of the scenario.

35 and Jordan just had an it factor that Lebron doesn't yet to my eyes but I may be wrong. He was a killer breaking hearts of some really good players and teams of that era.

It's not about titles for me, it's best basketball player and I don't feel like Jordan had a single weakness on the court.

Boston no but his supporting cast was shite during that time period and Boston was in the midst of one of the best 4 year runs in NBA history. He did beat the Lakers in the '91 finals and beat the Pistons while they were still on top. He also beat the loaded down Knicks several times and some great Jazz teams.

I never said LBJ hasn't gone against HoF players and that wasn't my point. My point is that if you are too young to have actually watched the NBA then you might not realize just by watching clips on Youtube what MJ was also up against.

Most people saying they saw MJ in his prime was still in their pre teens. You can't discredit someone for being a baby in the early 90's and claim yourself an analyst because you were growing pubes.

I do agree with this though. The obsession with ranking on here is crazy.
