What do the backmarker teams in Formula One get out of participating?

Some of them will never podium. Is there a TV profit sharing system in place that makes it worth their effort? I’m just trying to understand the intricacies of the sport.
I know there are sponsors but they seem to play a smaller role than in other motorsports.

I don't know the exact answer (I'm sure you can look it up) but I believe the top 14 or 12 or some number of teams qualify for revenue sharing. So even though they'll never podium there is a race within the race to get to one of those spots.

A few of the backmarkers are feeder teams
Sauber and Ferrari
Red Bull and Toro Rosso
Williams sucks but they used to be great, McLaren was winning championships not long ago

There are only 10 teams right now but you're basically right. They get money based on the points they score.

How can Max Verstappen complain about backmarkers when his dad is Jos Verstappen? LINK

In recent years in MotoGP, some of the backmarker teams charged for the ride - instead of being paid by the team, the rider had to pay to ride for that team. The rider would earn his money through sponsors. Not sure if this is still occurring since a couple new factories have joined the grid.

In F1 it's not quite that institutionalized but some drivers do sort of pay their own way, or bring sponsor money to the team. Lance Stroll currently driving for Williams, is that way. His father dumped a bunch of money into the team. (But then he bought a different team so it's only a matter of time before Stroll leaves Williams for his dad's team.) I think Sergio Perez has some financial backing as well. And I'm pretty sure that Pastor Maldonado did too when he was in F1.
