What did yesterday's semifinals games prove, if anything, about selection?

To me, this whole playoff movement is certainly going in the right direction. However, 4 teams just isn't enough to me. I'm not the guy who's ever going to say 16 or more, but, I think you have to look at expending to at least 6, but more likely 8.
Clemson and Bama were certainly deserving of getting in as 1-2.
I think MSU did deserve a spot, but as we saw wasn't really "playoff" material once the lights came on.
I think Oklahoma also deserved a spot, but just got outplayed down the stretch.
But tell me this, would you not have wanted to see Ohio State, Stanford, or even Houston and another "wild card" type team in this? I think the sport is being done a huge disservice by not expanding to a more NFL like playoff field. There's already 6 New Year's games so to me it only seems natural to use another 1-2 of those games as real playoff matches.

It proved that Bama is head and shoulders better than every team in the country.

It's perfect the way it is.

I just don't know how you take that away. MSU tried to outbama Bama without the talent LSU has. it's insane that you would look at 30 days of gamefilm and think "lets run at them"
Kiffin came up with a GREAT gameplan on offense, but it's assisted when you don't even try to move the ball

8 team playoff is where I hope we're headed

It tells me the BCS would have had it right yet again.

Proves to me that the Big 10 divisions are completely out of balance. They will need to be changed again in the near future.
And that Michigan State plays the kind of football Alabama is built to stop. They are basically LSU with the speed LSU possesses. Coupled with a career 50% passer, you get that beat down.

With six teams, Ohio State and Stanford are in. I don't know why anyone would disagree with that.

* 6 teams total
(5 BCS conference champs +1)
* Top 2 seeds gets a bye
(This makes the regular season games important and give a reward to great seasons)
1st round
#6 -vs- #3
#5 -vs- #4
2nd round
#1 -vs- Highest seed left
#2 -vs- Lowest seed left
3rd round
Title game
Having to win 2 or 3 tough CFB games is more than enough and 6 teams would be the perfect number. It'd be bad if CFB started having 2 loss CFB team/teams in the playoffs every season. That's why 8 teams is to high and 6 teams is correct the answer.

The last thing we need is team 9,10, and 11 crying to ESPN about "where is their respect" and why were they were left out.

So they'd be 1-1 in the playoff era.

Because you don't know who the top 2 teams are and you're giving them an advantage unparalleled in any other sport. This isn't the NFL where there's only 1 week off. Here there are 4-5 weeks off and it would create a huge problem. 4 or 8 to me is the only way

The playoff teams (minus Oklahoma) all had less than four weeks off. That extra week didn't benefit Oklahoma. Add another game in there and it becomes less. Keeping a bye for the top two maintains the importance of the entire season.

Just like last year, right?

I like the idea of 6. 5 champs and one wild card, who I would only assume would be Ohio State this year. But then Houston gets left out who I would have been really interested to see how much noise they could have made.

I agree with this mostly, but until the Big 12 gets a championship game it should be 4+2. Big 12 only gets in if they're better than two other "at large teams".

Game 1 was legit.
Game 2, not so much.
Maybe 4 should have been 3, and there should have been another 4?
But, you really can't know all of this...

I'm fine with 4, but if they had to expand no more than 6
