What age should I get golf lessons for my son?

I am a beginner golfer and just learning to swing and I plan on taking lessons soon.
My son is 4 1/2 and I've taken him to the range with me and let him hit a youth 6 iron and he hits it straighter than I do but with no real form.
I'm still learning so I didn't try to teach him any form other than showing him the club face and that that's what's supposed to hit the ball. He had a blast hitting balls.
When should I consider getting him lessons? I don't want to over do it at too young of an age and burn him out on it. But he likes it and I don't want him to free swing for too long and develop habits if he keeps coming to the range with me.

Not for a while (ages 6-7). If anything they have kids clinics now where they do lessons as a group with velcro balls and plastic clubs. Keeps it fun for the kids.

I don't know where you live but I give lessons to youths in the Shreveport/bossier area. Some people start really early but 5 is a nice age to start IMO.

its hard to keep most young kids interested in golf, unless they are too unathletic to play other sports and the game comes natural to them

This is the hardest part. An hour lesson for a kid is almost painful for them. 30 minutes is tops you can do.

I appreciate the input from everyone.
I'm hoping he will be interested in golf because it would be something we could do together for a long time. But I'm not going to force him into it.
I'll let him tag along at the range when he wants and if he still shows interest in a few years I'll get him some lessons.

I've seen way too many kids whose dads try either to force them into it or try and put them in lessons too early and they quit 100% of the time...
I started when I was 12...if he doesn't absolutely catch on to it at an early age, don't push it

I concur with weave. He will probably get in to other sports as he grows older also. But give him a chance to learn, play, and if he continues to like it, further his ability by lessons later on.
